Job Description

The Director of Analytics and Decision Support is pivotal in driving strategic decision‑making for Biltmore’s Destination business through mining, analyzing, and interpreting complex internal and external data sets. The successful candidate will provide insight‑driven recommendations to senior management to help achieve corporate goals. Key responsibilities include developing accurate forecast models, refining pricing strategies, and identifying new opportunities to drive revenues and enhance guest experience for our business. Findings must be presented in a clear and concise manner to facilitate informed decision‑making. The position is also responsible for developing and managing a team of data analysts.

Essential Job Duties

  • Data Mining and Strategic Analysis:
    • Use data mining and analysis techniques to identify, evaluate, and present strategic recommendations to take advantage of business opportunities.
    • Provide support in analyzing confidential and complex events, playing a key role in developing and contributing to strategic solutions.
    • Assist with maintaining SQL data warehouses and associated queries to ensure the accuracy of data used in reporting and analysis.
  • Forecasting, Budgeting, and Decision Support:
    • Develop accurate forecasts to anticipate future business demand and guide strategic decision‑making.
    • Understand the influence of various factors, such as economic conditions, marketing efforts, and pricing strategies, to adjust forecasts as needed.
    • Work with senior management to develop annual budgets and operating plans, providing data‑driven insights and recommendations.
  • Revenue Enhancement and Capacity Optimization:
    • Identify opportunities with pricing strategies and ticketed experiences to determine optimal balance of estate visitation, guest satisfaction, and revenues.
    • Conduct analysis to determine and recommend optimal capacities, hours of operation, and utilization rates for various ticketed experiences.
  • Development and Management of Data Analysts:
    • Manage and guide the activities of a team of data analysts.
    • Provide training, development, and mentoring for the team.
    • Hire new team members as needed.
    • Conduct annual reviews for direct reports and create development plans.
  • Reporting and Communication:
    • Regularly prepare and present clear, concise reports to stakeholders, detailing findings, insights, and recommendations from data analysis.
    • Show strong communication skills in discussing these insights with various stakeholders.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist the VP of Marketing and CMO with ad hoc projects as needed.
  • Work closely and manage relationships with cross‑functional teams, to ensure timely sharing of information and data to produce required forecasts and analysis.
  • Stay abreast of industry advancements in data analysis tools and techniques to continuously improve the effectiveness of analysis, forecasts, and reporting.

Qualifications

  • A four‑year degree in a quantitative field including Business, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field. Master’s degree in related field is a plus.
  • 10+ years of data analysis experience. Additional experience preferred; ideal candidate will have a variety of experience across multiple industry segments.
  • 5+ years of experience with statistical programming software (R or Python) and SQL.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of statistical concepts (e.g., regression analysis, hypothesis testing).
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills required. Must be proactive, resourceful, and creative.
  • Good judgment and the ability to anticipate, troubleshoot, and address issues are required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills; must be able to present complex and technical information clearly, concisely, and effectively to a variety of audiences.
  • Should have a keen attention to detail with a focus on quality, and be able to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Conducts work assignments of increasing complexity, under moderate supervision with some latitude for independent judgment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the delivery of world‑class internal and external guest service, and be able to represent Biltmore in a professional manner consistent with company standards.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and Power BI is required. Proficiency with Word and PowerPoint preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Works in an office environment spending the majority of the time working on a computer; should be able to sit for extended periods of time.
