Director, Engineering - (Celebration Key)

Overview

The Director of Engineering will oversee and manage the engineering functions across multiple private destinations at one or more Carnival Corporation owned and operated global destination. This leadership role ensures all facilities, equipment, and engineering systems operate at optimal performance levels, aligned with the company’s standards, policies, and strategic objectives. The position involves managing technical maintenance, safety equipment, utilities, environmental and waste management systems, and leading a diverse team of engineering professionals. The Director will also collaborate with global teams responsible for the development and operation of company-owned destinations, supporting growth and excellence in guest experience through world-class engineering operations.

Responsibilities

  1. Team Leadership and Development
    • Lead, coach, and inspire engineering and maintenance teams through performance management, training, recognition, and career development.
    • Set clear goals and objectives aligned with company strategy to ensure high team performance and engagement.
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and innovation within the engineering and maintenance teams.
    • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to ensure smooth communication and teamwork across departments.
  2. Operations and Maintenance Management
    • Oversee facility management and maintenance operations, including power generation, wastewater treatment, water systems, recycling and waste management, electrical, pumps, pool, and HVAC systems.
    • Develop, implement, and manage preventive maintenance programs to optimize equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
    • Monitor vendor performance to ensure quality, timely delivery, warranty adherence, and effective upgrades or repairs.
    • Conduct regular site inspections and equipment checks to ensure operational excellence and compliance with safety standards.
  3. Strategic Planning and Compliance
    • Develop and execute engineering and maintenance strategies that align with organizational goals and promote sustainability.
    • Ensure all environmental systems and machinery meet or exceed compliance standards (local, international, and company policies).
    • Maintain and update policies, procedures, work orders, and documentation to support operational consistency and regulatory compliance.
    • Manage budgeting and requisition processes for parts, supplies, and equipment across safety, environmental, and technical functions.
    • Ensure proper treatment and disposal of waste streams in compliance with regulations and company standards.
  4. Project Management and Advisory
    • Manage engineering project timelines, scheduling, and reporting to ensure timely and within-budget project delivery.
    • Serve as the technical adviser to destination leadership, providing expert guidance on engineering and maintenance matters.
    • Support capital projects and infrastructure upgrades through technical expertise and coordination with project teams.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned to support organizational objectives and operational needs.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned.

HESS Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and guidelines related to health, safety, environmental protection, and security.
  • Take all necessary precautions, use personal protective equipment (PPE), safety devices, and tools correctly and consistently, as required by the nature of the work.
  • Promptly report any unsafe conditions, incidents, or environmental concerns to the appropriate supervisor or HESS representative.
  • Take reasonable care for your own health and safety, as well as that of colleagues and others who may be affected by your actions.
  • Actively participate in HESS trainings and initiatives that promote a safe, secure, and environmentally sustainable workplace.

Essential Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field required; Master’s degree in Engineering or Business Administration preferred. Or equivalent experience is required; additional education in Hospitality or a related field is a plus. Professional Engineering license is preferred.

Essential experience required

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in engineering management.
  • Hands-on experience in preventive maintenance, asset management, and failure mode and effects analysis.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, time management, problem-solving, project management, organizational, and people management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, attention to detail, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and cordially in English with employees, guests, and management.
  • Proficient in reading and writing English to understand, interpret, and provide instructions effectively.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach, talk, hear, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must have adequate vision abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Must be physically capable of participating in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills, with full range of motion and communication abilities.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours including weekends as needed.
  • Ability to travel regionally and internationally, including company headquarters, as required.
  • Willingness to relocate or travel frequently to operational destinations.
  • Active work authorization or visa as applicable.
