Position Overview
Working from the office in Duluth, Georgia, the Director of State Reporting and Finance serves as a key member of Georgia Connections Academy’s leadership team. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of all state, federal, and local reporting while providing school‑level financial oversight and fiscal accountability.
The Director ensures business continuity by documenting, maintaining, and executing critical data reporting and financial oversight processes within a centralized, auditable framework. This position oversees state and federal reporting, accountability submissions, data validation, and cross‑departmental analytics, while also serving as the school’s internal authority for financial oversight, budget monitoring, payment approvals, reconciliation, and financial data validation.
While Pearson Virtual Schools (PVS) serves as GACA’s third‑party provider for payroll processing, financial reporting, and external financial audits, this role functions as the school’s internal financial and reporting lead, ensuring alignment between enrollment, staffing, and instructional programming.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with requirements from the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE), the State Charter Schools Commission (SCSC), and applicable federal agencies, while supporting informed leadership and Board‑level decision‑making.

As Director of State Reporting and Finance, you will:
- Influence high‑stakes decisions through accurate data and financial insight

- Play a central role in ensuring long‑term organizational stability
Key Responsibilities:
State, Federal, and District Reporting
- Lead and oversee all state, federal, and district reporting processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and full compliance.
- Research, anticipate, and implement changes in reporting requirements, developing proactive solutions and efficient workflows.
- Maintain a centralized repository documenting reporting requirements, timelines, data definitions, and procedures to ensure continuity and audit readiness.
- Oversee and validate reporting submissions, including but not limited to:
- Enrollment and FTE reporting
- Student demographics and attendance
- Assessment and accountability indicators
- Graduation and completion reporting
- Civil Rights Data Collection (CRDC)
- National Student Clearinghouse reporting
- Extract, reconcile, and validate data across multiple systems, including student information systems, learning management systems, and assessment platforms.
- Perform advanced data analysis using spreadsheets and reporting tools to analyze enrollment trends, attendance, graduation rates, and accountability outcomes.
- Create and present regular and ad‑hoc reports for executive leadership, the Board of Directors, auditors, and external agencies.
- Ensure data integrity, FERPA compliance, and secure handling of student and staff information.
- Serve as a district‑wide resource to school leaders and staff regarding accountability systems, reporting processes, and reporting implications.
- Monitor and communicate reporting deadlines, data collection windows, publication timelines, and system updates.
- Supervise staff responsible for state reporting, data validation, and data integration, including training, performance management, and workflow oversight.
Finance and Fiscal Oversight (School‑Level)
- Serve as GACA’s internal financial oversight lead, partnering with Pearson Virtual Schools (PVS) to ensure financial accuracy, transparency, and compliance.
- Hold check‑signing authority and ensure adherence to internal controls.
- Monitor school‑level budgets, spending trends, and funding allocations to ensure alignment with enrollment projections, staffing models, and instructional priorities.
- Review and validate financial reports provided by PVS for consistency with internal enrollment, staffing, and program data.
- Serve as the primary school‑level liaison to PVS for finance‑related data validation, timelines, and issue resolution.
- Support the Executive Director and Business Manager by providing financial analyses, projections, and variance reports to inform decision‑making.
- Ensure financial approvals, documentation, and processes meet local, state, and federal compliance requirements, including grant‑related expenditures when applicable.
- Support audits and monitoring reviews by ensuring school‑level documentation, reconciliations, and approvals are accurate and complete.
- Develop dashboards and internal reports that connect financial data with enrollment, staffing, and performance metrics.
Leadership and Project Management
- Provide leadership for complex, cross‑functional initiatives related to reporting, accountability, assessments, finance, and compliance.
- Establish standardized workflows, internal controls, and documentation to support operational efficiency and continuity.
- Collaborate with district leaders to align data and financial oversight with school improvement goals, assessment cycles, and strategic initiatives.
- Ensure clear communication, accountability, and follow‑through across reporting and finance functions.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Required
- Experience serving as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
- Experience serving as a data analyst for state reporting in a K–12 educational setting, with demonstrated responsibility for accuracy, compliance, and accountability submissions.
- Experience in K–12 education and/or state educational reporting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Education, Social Science Research, Finance, or a related field.
- Valid Georgia Tier I Educational Leadership certification and Georgia clearance certificate.
- Demonstrated expertise in data analysis, reporting, and regulatory compliance.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and Infinite Campus.
- Minimum of one (1) year of project management experience with evidence of successful implementation.
- Experience supervising and evaluating staff.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
- Experience with school finance, budgeting, or fiscal oversight in a public school or charter school setting.
- Familiarity with SQL Server queries, Reporting Services, and Power BI.
- Experience supporting audits, grants management, or enrollment‑based funding models.
- Experience working in a virtual or charter school environment.
