
The Executive Director serves as the chief administrative leader of the Association, overseeing all strategic, financial and operational aspects of the organization. This position manages the implementation of board policy, directs government affairs, leads public relations efforts, supervises all major events, and ensures a strong and engaged membership. The Executive Director is responsible for delivering on the association’s mission, sustaining its growth, and maintaining a high standard of service to its members.
This position also supports in nature the operation of a separate Non‑Profit Education Foundation. Operational skills and duties are duplicative in nature to all descriptions included in this job description but with far less frequency in operation of the association’s foundation.
Leadership & Administration
- Advise the Board of Directors and Executive Committee on organizational activities and strategic priorities
- Manage the daily operations of the association in alignment with goals and policies
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff performance
- Develop, propose, and manage the association’s annual budget
- Safeguard all organizational assets, confidential records, and proprietary information
- Responsible for compliance with the Florida Division of Elections, Florida Department of Revenue, Florida Division of Corporations and the Internal Revenue Service.
Accounting & Financial Management
- Maintain and manage the association’s accounting system using Quickbooks
- Oversee all aspects of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and invoicing
- Generate and present monthly financial reports to the Board of Directors and Finance Committee
- Ensure compliance with established financial procedures and timelines
- Collaborate with the Treasurer and Finance Committee to develop the annual budget
- Monitor expenses, revenue, and cash flow to protect association financial health
- Maintain up-to-date records of payroll, tax filings, and vendor payments
Governmental Affairs
- Serve as the liaison between association and local, state, and federal government bodies
- Build and maintain relationships with elected officials and municipal staff
- Attend relevant public meetings, hearings, and workshops on issues affecting the building industry
- Monitor and report on legislative or regulatory actions impacting members
- Represent association interests in meetings with county, municipalities with in the county, and business that impacts regional and state level policy.
- Coordinate advocacy initiatives and keep members informed about industry-related issues
Public Relations & Communications
- Serve as the organization’s public spokesperson and represent association in the media and community
Events Oversight
- Oversee planning and execution of signature events, including the Parade of Homes, Home Show, membership meetings, and special functions
- Oversee and execute sponsorship opportunities.
- Ensure alignment of events with the association’s mission, budget, and brand standards
Membership Engagement & Industry Relations
- Oversee membership growth and retention strategies
- Cultivate relationships with members and stakeholders to ensure engagement and long‑term value
- Act as the liaison to the national association and other state/national affiliates
Qualifications
- (Preferable) Graduation from an accredited university with a bachelor degree in business administration, public relations, marketing, communication or related area of study.
- Three years or more of proven leadership in nonprofit, trade association, or similar setting
- Strong understanding of public policy, community relations, and event strategy
- Exceptional communication, organizational, and team leadership skills
- Experience in budget management, staffing, and strategic planning
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, small‑team environment
Other Requirements
- Frequent travel is required with position as many meetings, events and functions are off grounds from main office typically within a 60 mile radius.
- Extended travel (overnight / long distance) typically consists of 5‑7 days total throughout year and can vary.
- Many events and meetings can occur outside of normal working hours and planning of time management and schedule is required.
