
Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for an Interim Executive Director for a long-standing, community-centered arts nonprofit organization. This is a full-time, onsite role based in San Francisco, CA , with a Tuesday–Saturday schedule and flexibility for events and meetings.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Executive Director serves as the chief executive, fundraiser, and public representative of a legacy photographic arts organization with a global reputation. Reporting to the Board’s Executive Committee, this leader guides strategic growth, financial sustainability, and organizational operations while advancing an inclusive and forward-looking artistic mission. The Executive Director partners closely with the Board, staff, artists, donors, and community stakeholders to ensure long-term impact and relevance.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead fundraising and development strategy, including donor cultivation, grants, sponsorships, and earned revenue initiatives
- Serve as the primary external ambassador and spokesperson, strengthening visibility and partnerships across the arts community
- Partner with the Board to advance strategic goals, governance best practices, and organizational sustainability
- Oversee operations including finance, programming, facilities, systems, and compliance
- Manage and support staff, contractors, and vendors while fostering a collaborative and inclusive workplace
- Develop and oversee the annual budget, financial reporting, and organizational planning
QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated success in nonprofit fundraising, development strategy, and revenue growth
- Strong executive leadership and organizational management experience
- Financial and operational acumen, including budgeting and fiscal oversight
- Ability to articulate and advance an artistic and cultural mission to diverse audiences
- Collaborative leadership style with strong communication and relationship-building skills
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This role offers a salary range of $80,000–$100,000 , commensurate with experience.
