The Opportunity The Director of Tax will lead the preparation of quarterly and annual tax provisions, assist with federal and state tax returns, ensure SOX compliance, and support forecasting and strategic tax planning. This role requires strong technical expertise, analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex tax issues to senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities Tax Provision

Prepare quarterly and annual income tax provisions and related financial statement disclosures.

Develop detailed workpapers and supporting schedules to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Monitor and analyze new tax legislation, regulations, and rulings; assess impact and propose strategic solutions.

Prepare Sarbanes‑Oxley (SOX) documentation and ensure compliance with internal controls.

Collaborate with internal and external auditors to support audits and resolve issues promptly.

Tax Compliance & Return Preparation

Assist with preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax returns.

Maintain complete and accurate tax workpapers and records to support audits and regulatory reviews.

Ensure timely filing and compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations.

Communicate with division personnel to address tax‑related inquiries and provide guidance.

Support implementation and optimization of tax compliance software and processes.

Tax Planning & Forecasting

Research and apply best practices to reduce tax costs and preserve net operating loss carryforwards.

Evaluate and recommend tax planning strategies, including accounting methods, elections, and other positions for efficient tax management.

Collaborate with accounting teams on new pronouncements and assess potential tax impacts.

Forecast effective tax rates, cash flow, and deferred tax asset utilization; coordinate with Accounting and Treasury teams.

Lead special projects related to tax planning, compliance improvements, and process efficiencies.

What You Bring

Bachelor’s degree in Tax, Finance, Accounting, or Business (required).

CPA and/or MBT (preferred).

8+ years in tax, finance, or accounting roles, preferably with real estate experience and large accounting firm background.

Progressive responsibility in tax provisioning within publicly traded organizations.

Technical Proficiency

Federal and State Income Tax

Partnership Taxation

ASC 740 / GAAP and SOX compliance

Tax research and interpretation of complex regulations

Insource tax compliance software

Microsoft Excel (intermediate or higher)

Strong technical and analytical skills

Ability to identify issues, research solutions, and implement recommendations

Solutions‑oriented mindset with strategic thinking

Excellent communication—able to simplify complex concepts

Exceptional time management and organizational skills

Strong team player, inclusive of others’ ideas

Demonstrated leadership abilities, including strategic planning and motivating teams

Strong business acumen and results‑driven approach

Ability to drive/travel throughout the designated area to construction sites as needed.

Ability to walk up and down stairs.

Ability to observe details at close range and communicate information so others will understand.

Ability to transport and move up to 20 lbs and move as needed (for roles in Construction/Customer Service/IT/Land/Marketing/Sales/Studio).

Periodically works in outdoor weather conditions (for roles in Construction/Customer Service/Land/Sales).

Maintain a professional and ethical conduct to reinforce company goodwill and profitability.

Position located at the Corporate Office #LI-onsite.

Compensation Details and Benefits KB Home offers a competitive base pay. The expected base pay range for this position is based on experience and is noted below, paid semi‑monthly. Other rewards may include bonuses or role‑specific awards. KB Home provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays, sick time and vacation.

Pay Range USD $150,000.00 - USD $175,000.00 /Yr.
