Job Summary: 14 News, the award-winning, dominant #1 station in Evansville, Indiana, is seeking a strong candidate to co-anchor our weekday morning newscast. We are looking for an aggressive anchor who is passionate about covering local news and weather. The ideal candidate should be an energetic “morning person” who can give viewers something to look forward to in the mornings. We need someone who can solo-anchor when necessary for several hours. We seek an anchor who will be involved in the day-to-day operations of the newsroom, provide content through our streaming platforms, and come up with energetic ideas to editorial meetings.
Responsibilities:
Anchoring at least 2.5 hours of news a day, as well as consistent streaming hits as assigned
Serving in a leadership role, assisting in overnight editorial decisions
Collaborating and assisting show producers with the acquisition, treatment, and writing of news content
Researching, gathering, writing, and editing news stories for on-air and online
Writing in a clear, concise, conversational manner
Possessing excellent interview and conversational writing/presentation skills
Reporting “live” on the scene during breaking news or weather
Report on special projects as assigned
Developing and maintaining sources of information
Demonstrating sound news judgment
Mentoring other Team members
Utilizing non-linear editing equipment
Participating in story selection meetings
Attending/hosting/speaking at schools and community events
Posting and regularly updating stories and other material on the web and social media
Occasionally shoot stories for newscasts
Following clothing and appearance guidelines set by news management
Learning a broad and working knowledge of the viewing area, including people, places, things, and history
Performing other job-related duties as assigned
Meeting tight deadlines and working well under pressure
Maintaining professional and ethical conduct in the station and in the community
Maintaining a positive work atmosphere
Staying current with national and local news/weather
Qualifications:
2-3 years of experience as a television anchor
A bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field is preferred
Experience with ENPS and Edius editing is a plus
Ability to shoot and edit videos, write scripts, and effectively communicate live on-air
Present information in a fair, unbiased manner
