Assistant Public Defender

The Chemung County Public Defender’s office represents all indigent persons without charge, or by Court Order with the consent of the defendant/litigant, who are charged with a crime or a litigant in Family Court as defined by 722(a) of the County Law. The Chemung County Public Defender’s Office employs 11 Assistant Public Defenders and two Supervising Assistant Public Defenders. Unless or until such time as a conflict is identified, the Public Defender’s Office represents all indigent defendants/litigants involving all Criminal and Family Court matters in Chemung County. Must be licensed to practice law in New York State. At the time of employment, the applicant must be a resident of Chemung County, Steuben County, Tioga County, Schuyler County or Broome County
