Director of Financial Planning & Analysis

CFS, Boulder, CO, United States

Salary min: $86.00

Salary max: $93.00

Duration: Full Time

Our client in the energy industry is seeking a Director of Financial Planning & Analysis to serve as the strategic financial partner across a dynamic portfolio. This is a high-visibility leadership role at the intersection of operations, investment strategy, and executive decision-making.

If you thrive on turning complex data into decisive action — and are energized by influencing performance at scale — this role was built for you.

What Makes This Role Unique

  • Direct exposure to executive leadership and board-level discussions
  • Influence over capital strategy and portfolio value creation
  • A seat at the table where operational performance meets investment discipline
  • Opportunity to shape reporting, modeling, and analytical standards across a growing energy platform

The Opportunity

As Director of FP&A, you will act as the financial architect for a diverse portfolio of energy assets. You’ll challenge assumptions, sharpen forecasts, and ensure capital is deployed with discipline and clarity. You won’t just report results — you’ll shape them.

What You’ll Drive

  • Evaluate and pressure-test business plans, forecasts, and quarterly reporting for portfolio — strengthening assumptions, identifying blind spots, and elevating financial rigor.
  • Track and interpret key operational and financial performance indicators, isolating the real drivers behind variances and translating them into actionable insights.
  • Design and maintain sophisticated financial models, including scenario planning, discounted cash flow valuations, and IRR analysis to support investment and capital allocation decisions.
  • Standardize and streamline reporting frameworks, creating consistency across portfolio and ensuring seamless information flow to the private equity sponsor.
  • Craft executive-ready presentations and board materials that clearly communicate performance, risks, and strategic opportunities.
  • Lead and develop the FP&A function, mentoring team members while serving as a critical liaison between portfolio finance teams and internal stakeholders, including PE sponsor.

What You Bring:

You are analytically sharp, commercially minded, and confident challenging senior operators when numbers don’t align with strategy. You’re comfortable moving from detailed modeling to boardroom storytelling — and back again.

You likely bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher-level degree in accounting, finance, or economics
  • 7-10 years of deep FP&A and financial modeling expertise in energy, infrastructure, or asset-heavy industries
  • Proven leadership and team development experience
  • Strong understanding of valuation methodologies and IRR
  • Executive presence and clear communication skills
Salary: $180K-195K
