About Oyster Reef Golf Club Nestled within the gated community of Hilton Head Plantation, Oyster Reef is a semi‑private 18‑hole championship course known for its rolling topography, mature oaks, tidal marsh views, and elevated finishing holes overlooking Port Royal Sound. The course is a favorite among members and visiting golfers alike for its strategic design and natural beauty.

This is a high‑visibility role with strong member engagement and an ownership group committed to maintaining exceptional playing conditions while supporting capital improvement initiatives.

Position Summary The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the overall management, maintenance, and agronomic performance of the golf course and surrounding grounds. This includes leadership of the maintenance team, budget oversight, long‑range planning, environmental stewardship, and collaboration with Club leadership to deliver exceptional course conditions year‑round.

The successful candidate will combine technical expertise with strong communication skills and a passion for team development.

Key Responsibilities Agronomy & Course Conditioning

Develop and execute comprehensive turfgrass management programs

Maintain exceptional playing conditions for greens, tees, fairways, and roughs

Implement IPM and environmental best practices

Oversee irrigation system performance and water management strategy

Lead short- and long‑term agronomic planning

Leadership & Culture

Recruit, train, mentor, and retain a high‑performing maintenance team

Foster a positive, accountable, and safety‑focused culture

Communicate effectively with ownership, leadership, members, and guests

Participate in planning meetings and provide regular course updates

Financial & Operational Management

Prepare and manage annual operating and capital budgets

Monitor expenses, payroll, and purchasing

Manage equipment fleet maintenance and replacement planning

Oversee vendor relationships and contract services

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.

Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.

Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Able to meet and perform physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.

Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping, and pulling.
