
Benefits Specialist

The Benefits Specialist is responsible for administering domestic and international (i.e., United States, Canada, Puerto Rico) benefits to include medical, dental, vision, pharmacy, stop loss, life insurance, AD&D STD, LTD, HSA, HRA, FSA, 401k, 403b, deferred comp, workers compensation and all leave management (FMLA, ADA, etc).
MINISTERIAL QUALIFICATIONS
All staff positions are considered ministerial in nature due to the purpose and mission of the company.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Research, analyze, and administer all healthcare, wellness, retirement and leave programs. Assist with benefit processes, administration, advocacy, education and training of all benefits and retirement programs.
Administer all leave of absence programs, including FMLA, ADA accommodations, Workers’ Compensation coordination, and organizational‑specific leave policies. Track leaves, ensure proper documentation, and maintain compliance with all federal and state laws.
Manage Short‑Term Disability (STD) and Long‑Term Disability (LTD) claims. Serve as the point of contact for employees and carriers to ensure timely submission, follow‑up, and claim resolution.
Work with benefit brokers/vendors/suppliers and insurance companies on plan summaries, invoicing, contract renewals, insurance claims, death claims, disputes, and questions.
Serves as the liaison between employee and insurance provider.
Resolve employee benefit questions, problems or and disputes.
Stay up to date with federal, state, and local HR and benefit laws.
Assist with benefit compliance (COBRA, 5500, Discrimination Testing, FAS106, 1095, Medicare Part‑D, ERISA, etc.).
Calculate benefit paycheck deductions as needed.
Plan, implement and administer annual open enrollment process and presentation.
Attend all benefit and HR training and meetings.
Respond to all messages timely (emails, teams, Freshdesk, Ring Central, Workday, etc.)
Support the Benefits Manager with projects as needed.
Conduct HRIS system testing (UAT, regression, configuration validation) related to benefits, leaves, and payroll‑impacting processes. Ensure issues are documented and reported for correction.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
2-3 years of related experience (required)
GBA, CEBS Certification (preferred)
KEY SKILLS
Proficient Excel skills: moving beyond data entry to confidently manage, analyze, and visualize data using formulas (VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, IF) and PivotTables.
WORK SCHEDULE (HYBRID)
Mondays & Fridays - WFH
8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
COMPENSATION RANGE
$50,000 - $56,000 + $2,100 annual cell phone reimbursement
