Our Client: One of the UK’s leading building, infrastructure and engineering contractors delivering projects across a range of sectors with a specialist focus on water and highway works. They provide specialist design and build capabilities and are experienced at project management and integrating all aspects of a project.

The Role: Ensure the client can understand, assess, and qualify opportunities for continual growth to be achieved. Identify the best opportunities for bids and decide which jobs are worth bidding for while devising a successful bidding strategy to win new clients, thereby building the portfolio of future work and client relationships. Drive continuous improvement in the approach to all aspects of preparing and submitting tenders. Play an active role in the definition, communication, and execution of the bidding strategy and the close-out plan. Ensure a disciplined approach to completion of tasks and governance through the tender period. Ensure continuity of approach and that risk is identified and effectively mitigated. Provide leadership by applying best practices and guiding the bid team and other stakeholders throughout the tender lifecycle. Balance increasing the number of tenders with protecting the business and the requirements of internal and external stakeholders. Manage individual bids as required.

Responsibilities

Build and manage multi‑disciplined, geographically dispersed, high‑performing bid teams.

Lead the team to a common set of goals and deliverables.

Challenge and coach team members in support of quality outcomes.

Manage the process of drafting, reviewing, finalising, and submitting quality proposal and tender documents to clients.

Engage with potential clients in the tender process.

Manage the final stages of the tender process leading to contract award.

Qualifications and Skills

Relevant engineering or construction degree essential.

Demonstrable success rate in leading major multi‑disciplinary infrastructure bids.

Proven experience of working on or leading civil engineering or construction projects.

Solid working knowledge of estimating, planning, design, commercial and written submissions; skilled in identifying and controlling risk.

Excellent organisational skills.

Demonstrable experience of working in a joint venture environment.

Skills to build and lead geographically dispersed, multi‑disciplined bid teams, using the talents of each team member.

Flexibility and resilience, adapting quickly to changing circumstances while keeping the team focused on goals and deliverables.

Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines while leading the team with empathy and understanding of each member’s situation.

Customer focus; understands business and technical objectives of the customer; builds customer trust and engagement.

Strategic thinking; applies industry or regional knowledge to help strategy development, procurement engagement and response development.

Detailed knowledge of project management and bid management disciplines; strong written and verbal communication skills.

Capable of facilitating sessions including best practice events; acts as single point of contact for the bid for all stakeholders and customers.

Broad knowledge of technical, solution (offerings), legal, commercial, and financial aspects.
