Chenega Military, Intelligence & Operations Support (MIOS) provides federal agencies and commercial customers with trusted insights into Records and Information Management, Administrative Solutions, Information Technology, Engineering, and Training. The Containerization Subject Matter Expert is a pivotal role responsible for providing expert-level knowledge and guidance on the design, implementation, and optimization of containerization technologies within the organization for the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Wright‑Patterson AFB, Ohio.

Responsibilities

Utilize deep expertise in Kubernetes orchestration and Docker containerization platforms to support the development, deployment, and management of scalable and resilient IT infrastructure and applications.

Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams, including development, operations, and security, to assess technical requirements and design effective cloud‑native solutions.

Architect and implement containerized solutions, ensuring high availability, security, and performance for AFRL environments at Wright‑Patterson AFB, Ohio.

Drive innovation by evaluating emerging container and orchestration technologies, recommending improvements, and leading proof‑of‑concept initiatives.

Provide technical guidance and best practices for containerization, orchestration, and related DevOps processes across teams.

Support deployment automation and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to streamline application delivery.

Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to Kubernetes and Docker environments, ensuring system reliability and performance.

Document system architectures, deployment procedures, and technical standards to ensure consistency and knowledge sharing.

Conduct training and knowledge transfer sessions for team members to enhance skills related to cloud‑native platform management.

Stay current with industry trends and advancements in containerization and orchestration technologies to continuously improve AFRL’s infrastructure capabilities.

Serve as the primary technical authority for Kubernetes and Docker technologies, providing guidance, best practices, and thought leadership to stakeholders across the organization.

Design, architect, and implement virtualization and containerization solutions based on business requirements.

Lead the deployment and integration of virtual infrastructure, Kubernetes and Docker solutions within existing IT infrastructure, ensuring seamless interoperability and compatibility with other systems and applications.

Optimize the performance, scalability, and reliability of virtualized and containerized environments through configuration tuning, resource management, and workload optimization techniques.

Implement security best practices and compliance standards for virtualization and containerization environments, including identity and access management, network segmentation, encryption, and vulnerability management.

Develop automation scripts and workflows using tools like Ansible, Terraform, and Helm to streamline provisioning, deployment, and management tasks.

Implement monitoring and logging solutions to proactively identify and resolve issues, monitor performance metrics, and ensure high availability and uptime of virtualized and containerized workloads.

Provide training, mentoring, and knowledge transfer to IT teams and stakeholders on Kubernetes, Docker, and automation concepts, best practices, and troubleshooting techniques.

Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in virtualization and containerization, participating in professional development activities and driving continuous improvement initiatives within the organization.

Code or modifications developed for open‑source software applications under this contract shall be delivered with unlimited rights.

Implement capabilities on virtualized and or containerized systems built using automated processes. All code implementing system configuration changes.

Construct a virtualized and/or containerized (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.) service infrastructure for the new zones as decided by the customer.

Author and maintain Policies, Processes, and Procedures within the organization’s Strategic IT Management framework.

Maintain a neat, secure, and orderly facility.

Complete annual company and customer training requirements according to established policies and procedures, as required.

Record labor hours daily in an online corporate system.

Travel up to 10% as required.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent

Bachelor of Science in Information Technology or related field preferred.

6+ years of experience required.

DoD 8570 IAM I, II, or III baseline certification required (CompTIA Security+, CISSP, etc).

Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license.

Secret clearance required with the ability to obtain TS/SCI.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Expert‑level training/knowledge of virtualization and containerization technologies.

The ability to manage a virtualized data center across multiple security classification levels up to and including Top Secret.

Experience with operating and maintaining IT systems in a DoD environment is desired.

Experience with operating and maintaining IT systems in a research or academic environment.

Experience commensurate with DoD or AFRL Risk Management Framework (RMF) and hardening and operating IT systems accordingly.

Experience with the application of the DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).

Experience with data center‑level hardware, including blade servers, high‑speed fiber optic‑based networking, and Storage Area Networks (SANs).

Experience with DevOps paradigm for data center operations and automated system provisioning and configuration management using Ansible.

Must be well organized, an effective communicator at multiple levels, and able to grasp system concepts and communicate their applications.

Must be capable of quickly learning new systems and associated software applications for proficient execution of tasks.

Must be capable of managing multiple tasks with time‑related constraints in a fast‑paced environment.

Ability to schedule and prioritize work to accommodate customer needs while minimizing the impact on current projects.

Ability to work with all departments to ensure network availability, security, and accessibility.

Possess strong problem‑solving skills.

Ability to self‑start and work independently or as a team.

Ability to travel up to 10% as requested.
