Mechanical Designer
Actalent, Salem, OR, United States
Job Title: Mechanical Designer/Drafter
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Mechanical Designer/Drafter with a focus on CAD execution and documentation, supporting mechanical and electromechanical development. This role involves creating models, managing parts or assemblies, performing top‑down modeling, and sourcing off‑the‑shelf components. While this is not an engineering role, it is a high‑impact position that enables engineers to concentrate on analysis and system design.
Responsibilities
Own creation, maintenance, and release of CAD in Creo and Windchill.
Build and manage parts and assemblies, including top‑down modeling, detailed drawings with exploded views, and BOMs and release packages.
Administer CAD data flow from prototype to production.
Manage CAD templates, libraries, and off‑the‑shelf component models.
Modify and adapt components to fit system needs, such as bearings, housings, and covers.
Design simple mechanical components, including covers, brackets, fastener selections, and gasket interfaces.
Apply GD&T per ASME Y14.5 standards.
Incorporate engineering feedback, such as model edits based on FEA results.
Generate CAD screenshots, section views, visuals, and slides for design and gate reviews.
Act as a CAD execution partner to mechanical engineers, executing design intent while engineers validate stress and physics.
Essential Skills
5+ years of experience in design and drafting using Creo Parametric (Pro/Engineer) and Windchill – other 3D modeling tools will not replace Creo for this opening.
Comfortable operating as a CAD “power user” or CAD jockey from a career alignment standpoint.
Experience with GD&T and production documentation for shipped products.
Experience in mechanical or electromechanical machines, including robotics, manufacturing equipment, test equipment, industrial machines, automotive, and aerospace, or similar. CAD experience should include some sort of more complex electromechanical or mechanical assemblies.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience beyond consumer products or plastics alone is strongly preferred.
Career designers/drafters are ideal, but engineers who strongly gravitate towards CAD work will also be considered so long as they are an avid Creo user.
Work Environment This position will initially be heavily remote, with 1‑2 days/week required on‑site. Eventually, the role will transition to a little heavier office/hybrid work model in either Salem, OR, or an alternative location (Fremont, CA). Candidates need to be willing to adapt to this hybrid work environment and be onsite 2‑3 days/week.
Currently we will not consider applicants outside of the PNW, Bay Area, or candidates who are in process of relocating to those areas currently.
Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $45.00 – $72.00/hr.
Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be subject to specific elections, plan, or program terms. If eligible, the benefits available for this temporary role may include the following:
