Center for Targeted Machine Learning (CTML) Administrative Team Overview The Center for Targeted Machine Learning and Causal Inference (CTML) at UC Berkeley is an interdisciplinary research center for advancing, implementing, and disseminating methodology to address problems arising in public health and clinical medicine. CTML's mission statement is to drive rigorous, transparent, and reproducible science by harnessing cutting‑edge causal inference and machine learning methods targeted towards robust discoveries, informed decision‑making, and improving health.
The administrative team is made up of a senior director of administration and finance, a project coordinator, and 2‑3 student assistants. The team is responsible for both external and internal communications; managing the website and social media accounts; distributing a monthly newsletter; center marketing; and supporting BPH’s communication and development teams, HR, Dean's office, and other teams within the school.
Position Summary The Events Manager within the Administration Team within CTML works under the direction of the Senior Director of Administration and Finance and closely with the Center’s Co‑Directors and colleagues to produce a wide variety of events, but is mainly responsible for the Center's annual conferences, both onsite and remote, and one‑off high‑profile speaking engagements.

Responsibilities
Lead research conference planning, project management, and production, including in‑person and livestreamed events ranging from 40 to 1,000 attendees, ensuring smooth, effective execution.
Proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve potential and actual issues using tact, sensitivity, discretion, and political acumen.
Event types include annual conferences (onsite and remote) and high‑profile one‑off speaking engagements.
Oversee And Execute Event‑specific Tasks
Develop project schedules; manage publicity timelines; create risk assessment and mitigation plans; contract vendors (e.g., catering, technology support, event equipment and furniture, photography, janitorial, parking services); procure supplies; create run‑of‑show documents; communicate with speakers and VIPs; identify appropriate venues; coordinate with program participants to gather biographies, photos, and presentation titles for event publicity and online titling; and determine parking, transportation, and catering needs.
Manage Event Logistics
Prepare budgets; coordinate staffing plans; arrange travel; and prepare all event materials, including programs, timetables, signage, and printed collateral.
Purchase event‑related items such as catering, mementos, parking vouchers, and floral arrangements, and initiate contracts for catering, valet parking, venues, equipment, and technical services.
Contribute To And Participate In Long‑range Event Planning
Support strategic planning for future unit events.
Develop And Maintain Guest Lists
Ensure accurate and complete attendee information for each event.
Develop and Implement Event Budgets
Demonstrate good judgment in making decisions and managing events while ensuring that internal overall event services’ unit costs do not exceed budgeted allocations.
Ensure that event‑related expenses are processed in a timely fashion and according to campus policy.
Reconcile invoices and upload them into the UC Berkeley BFS system.
Maintain Events Calendar and Promotion
Maintain events calendar on CTML website; promote and publicize events within the School; work to ensure events are included in the calendar and communications; write event sections and assist in distribution of the monthly newsletter.
Mentoring and Professional Development
Mentor and oversee the work of less experienced events staff.
Participate in workshops, trainings, and other professional development opportunities; may participate in committees, projects, and other service activities.

Required Qualifications
Thorough knowledge and understanding of concepts, principles, and practices of event planning and public relations, including event design, organization, and production; possession of good judgment in making decisions and managing events.
Thorough knowledge of and/or the ability to quickly learn the campus, its vision, mission, programs, policies, achievements, and infrastructure.
Knowledge of and/or the ability to quickly learn University policies and procedures relating to the use of University facilities, event management and presentation.
Demonstrates good judgment in making decisions and managing events.
Skill in effectively meeting budget and time constraints.
Demonstrated organizational and project management skills to work successfully with clients to produce high‑quality events that meet client needs and appropriately represent the campus for fundraising events.
Skills to provide excellent donor stewardship.
Highly developed interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen and social perceptiveness.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaborate with individuals and groups from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.

The budgeted annual salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $83,000.00 - $89,000.00 at 100% FTE ($49,800.00 - $53,400.00 at 60% FTE).
This is a 9‑month, part‑time (60%) temporary position at 24 hours/week.
