Job Description The XR Media Developer/Designer will design, build, and maintain interactive Extended Reality (XR) experiences that support teaching, learning, and emerging media innovation. This role blends technical development, rapid prototyping, and collaborative production to deliver high-quality virtual, augmented, and mixed reality applications. The ideal candidate is a creative technologist with design sensibilities, strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication, and experience working in interdisciplinary environments.

This position reports to the Associate Director, Educational Media Design and performs as a core member of the Educational Media Design and Digital Media Innovation Teams within this in-house team, while working collaboratively with instructional designers, multimedia specialists, video producers, web application and web content developers as well as other university personnel. The Educational Media Design team collaborates with faculty and staff to design and develop effective rich-media applications, technology-rich learning materials and dynamic media elements for course design and educational media development projects. The production environment for this position is collaborative and team-oriented.

Duties Interactive XR Development & Technical Implementation (50%)

Develop virtual reality, augmented reality and immersive technology solutions for education.

Write, maintain, and optimize scripts and systems using C#, C++, Python, and engine-specific tools.

Build and structure immersive environments and create UX/UI components for XR interfaces.

Collaborate on XR pipeline development: exploration, documentation, training, and implementation for project teams.

Contribute to the production of various creative products and materials, working with the multimedia team and other DELTA teams and units.

Work well in a collegial relationship with faculty, staff, and students.

Communicate project timelines and progress through regular updates.

Distill complex information into clear, accessible concepts.

Interact with interdisciplinary teams and projects.

Interactive XR Design and Creative Production (30%)

Prototype and produce immersive learning experiences, products, and applications in support of digital education.

Contribute to the production of various creative products and materials, working with the multimedia team and other DELTA teams and units.

Ability to work in a team production environment and multidisciplinary design process.

Demonstrate experience in immersive media production pipelines and workflows.

Proficiency with digital communication tools and multimedia applications.

Proficiency in software and hardware related to media production.

Distill complex information into clear, accessible concepts.

Interact with interdisciplinary teams and projects.

Interactive XR Support and Maintenance (20%)

Manage application publishing, deployment pipelines, and maintenance workflows.

Work well in a collegial relationship with faculty, staff, and students.

Communicate project timelines and progress through regular updates.

Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.

Other Responsibilities

Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the organization and evolving priorities.

Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience

Require post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor’s degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.

Masters degree, advanced education or certificates in languages used for immersive experience development (such as C#, C++, Python, etc.).

Awareness of usability and accessibility considerations in multimedia design.

Experience working with clients or partners while building collegial relationships.

Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
