The
Director WMS & Automation Solutions Engineering
will lead a multidisciplinary group working on the latest innovation projects for Staples’ Supply Chain with the goal of improving the efficiency and performance of our warehouses. Working with their team and management, the Director will determine the highest impact initiatives that their team should be focused on. The Director will ensure that their teams are operating effectively and determine any gaps in performance that needs to be addressed. Working with the team, the Director will determine the current issues that the supply chain network experiences and suggest and develop new solutions that solve these problems.
Duties & Responsibilities
Design, develop, implement, and support the latest innovation projects of Staples’ Supply Chain with the goal of improving the efficiency and performance of our warehouses.
Determine prioritization of projects in collaboration with team and management.
Ensure that teams are aligned on business strategy so that associates work on the highest priority initiatives.
Manage the team to ensure solutions are developed, designed, and implemented effectively, on time, and efficiently.
Study the current state of the fulfillment centers to identify inefficient processes or other areas that can be improved.
Propose new initiatives that can be developed to solve the problems the current fulfillment centers face.
Own the end-to-end WMS strategy, roadmap, and execution across distribution centers.
Lead/support all technologies within the 4 walls.
Drive change & transformation—including completing MAWM rollout and driving mature governance & change management processes.
Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, IT, and vendors to optimize warehouse processes.
Oversee system integrations with ERP, TMS, OMS, automation, and 3PL platforms.
Lead and mentor WMS managers, architects, analysts, and vendors.
Drive continuous improvement, performance optimization, and cost efficiency.
Ensure system stability, compliance, and high availability in 24/7 operations.
Support automation initiatives (AS/RS, robotics, conveyors, labor management).
Manage budgets, vendor contracts, and implementation timelines.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Robotics, Software Engineering, Data Science or equivalent work experience.
14+ years of WMS experience, with strong hands‑on technical leadership.
Familiarity with Supply Chain systems, OMS, TMS, Small parcel etc.
Proven experience leading enterprise‑scale WMS implementations.
Deep understanding of warehouse operations, fulfillment, inventory, and labor management.
Experience managing cross‑functional and geographically distributed teams.
Strong stakeholder communication and executive‑level presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Manhattan Active WMS or any other SaaS WMS experience.
Cloud‑based WMS or SaaS transformation experience.
Exposure to automation and advanced warehouse technologies.
Retail, eCommerce, or high‑volume distribution background a plus.
Experience working with system integrators and third‑party vendors.
Familiarity with 4 Wall warehousing operations.
Talent management, fiscally responsible with understanding of budget and performance management.
The salary range represents the expected compensation for this role at the time of posting. The specific base pay may be influenced by a variety of factors to include the candidate's experience, skill set, education, geography, business considerations, and internal equity. In addition to base pay, this role may be eligible for bonuses, or other forms of variable compensation.
