Estimating & Cost Analysis Review project plans, specifications, and related documents to develop detailed cost estimates. Perform quantity take-offs for materials, labor, and equipment using estimating software and industry standards. Analyze construction methods and determine the most cost-effective solutions. Prepare conceptual, schematic, and detailed estimates depending on project stage. Create complete bid packages, proposals, and supporting cost documentation. Vendor & Subcontractor Management Solicit pricing from subcontractors and suppliers; analyze bids for accuracy and scope coverage. Build and maintain relationships with vendors to ensure competitive pricing and reliable services. Evaluate subcontractor qualifications and clarify scope discrepancies. Project & Internal Collaboration Work closely with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure alignment with project goals and constraints. Participate in project meetings, site visits, and pre-bid walkthroughs. Assist in value engineering efforts by identifying cost-saving opportunities. Reporting & Documentation Maintain organized estimate files, historical cost data, and pricing records. Prepare and present cost summaries, take-off reports, and bid comparison analyses. Support post-bid evaluations and handoffs to project teams. Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field (preferred). 3-7 years of experience as an Estimator in commercial, residential, or industrial construction Skills & Competencies Strong understanding of construction practices, materials, and building systems. Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Sage Estimating, ProEst) and MS Office. Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical drawings. Strong communication and negotiation skills. Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple deadlines. General Knowledge of Building and Construction codes Should be based in New Haven, CT. Preferred Attributes Certification from AACE, ASPE, or similar professional estimating organization. Experience in design-build, competitive bid, and negotiated contract environments. Knowledge of local building codes and permitting requirements. Previous experience as a Construction Estimator Working Conditions Office-based with occasional jobsite visits as required. Fast-paced environment with tight deadlines during bidding cycles.
