Paint Technician And Wallpaper Specialist

The primary role of the Paint Technician and Wallpaper Specialist at The Charleston Place is to ensure proper maintenance and ambiance in and around the hotel and its affiliated sites. This includes but is not limited to painting of walls, ceilings, trim, and interiors and exterior finishes of all sheens. Also, painting of furniture, desks, and other fixtures. This role is also responsible for some minor finish carpentry repairs and drywall repairs (large and small). Duties/Responsibilities:

Maintain accurate records on scheduled and unscheduled painting and repairs. Applies various finishes to buildings, rooms, or other structures, including primers, paints, stains, and sealers. Utilizes all appropriate tape, drop cloths, and plastic to protect work areas. Removes and installs wallpaper and specialty coatings as needed Repairs and patches drywall, including taping joints and corners Moves necessary equipment and materials around the property as needed Minor finish carpentry such as trim, casing, baseboards and crown moldings. Maintains an impeccable workspace Works with the team on a monthly overnight shift for 1 week at a time. Adhere to safety, security, and emergency procedures, react appropriately during emergency situations, and act promptly to correct hazards. Adhere to security procedures concerning the handling of guest room and master keys, security of boiler and electrical rooms and other engineering areas, proper storage of all chemicals, etc. Listen to and promptly act to resolve guest problems and complaints with a strong emphasis on customer service. Possess a strong drive to overcome roadblocks and complete all assigned and necessary tasks. Clean and organize the engineering shop and spaces Keeps Chief Engineer or Assistant Director of Engineering promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance so that prompt corrective action can be taken. Required Skills/Abilities:

Know how to operate hand and power tools (drills, saws, pressure washer, paint sprayer, ladders, and scissor lift) Read manufacturer instructions, blueprints, paint schedules, and the ability to discern a wide variety of paints and colors. Make effective judgments on the various aspects of drywall repairs and wall coverings, and effectively solve guest and operational problems. Operate the work order program to include detailed notes and the status of the job. Communicate effectively with other departments such as housekeeping and stewarding to work towards a common goal. Be flexible with scheduling. Be teachable. Have a drive to better oneself. Always maintain a clean and presentable appearance. Keep uniform clean and up to standards. Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum 2 years of painting experience required. Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a colleague to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: Must be able to lift equipment, supplies, etc. of at least 75 pounds. Must be able to resolve problems, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure. The role may require extended periods of time on your feet, especially during peak hotel hours or events. Clear vision is important for reading labels, instructions, blueprints, paint schedules, reports, analyzing data, and guest interactions. Good hearing is necessary for effective communication with the team via radios, with colleagues, guests, and stakeholders. Frequently required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Regularly required to climb ladders, stand, walk, talk, and hear; frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, and reach with hands and arms.
