Senior Civil Estimator
A privately owned civil/site and underground utility contractor in the Indianapolis area is seeking a Senior Civil Estimator to lead bidding efforts and help grow the company's backlog. This is a hands-on role for someone who can both estimate work and proactively find bid opportunities. Responsibilities Review plans/specs and develop detailed estimates for site development, underground utilities, and public works/commercial projects. Prepare complete bid proposals and participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits. Source new work through plan rooms, bid boards, and networking. Coordinate with subs/suppliers and manage RFIs, clarifications, and change order pricing. Support project managers during handoff and track cost impacts as needed. Utilize estimating and construction software (Insight/HeavyBid-type tools + Bluebeam). Requirements 35+ years of estimating experience in civil/site or underground utilities. Ability to find work, not just price it (bid boards, private contacts, municipal leads). Strong skills in reading plans/specs, cost control, and subcontractor negotiation. Proficient with digital estimating tools; able to work 100% in-office. Strong communication, follow-up, and ability to work independently. Compensation & Benefits Competitive base salary, typically $80k$110k+ depending on experience. Performance and annual bonus potential.
