The Technical Writer is detail-oriented and technically proficient to support our electrical equipment manufacturing operations. The successful candidate will develop clear, accurate, and compliant documentation for low and medium voltage switchgear and power distribution centers. This role plays a critical part in ensuring safety, quality, and operational excellence by producing work instructions, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), user manuals, and internal training materials.

Responsibilities

Perform all duties in a safe manner and promotes “Safety First” mentality across team

Create, edit, and maintain various company documentation, including, but not limited to work instructions for assembly, wiring, inspection, and testing, JHAs, SOPs, installation, operation, and maintenance manuals and guides, field service and commissioning guides

Ensure all established and new documentation aligns to applicable standard such as NFPA, IEEE, EL, and ISO

Work closely with engineering, production, quality, EHS, and field service teams to gather technical information

Participate in design reviews, process improvement meetings, and safety reviews to ensure documentation accuracy

Observe manufacturing operations to accurately capture real-world processes and safety considerations

Develop and update basic training materials for production and field staff

Assist subject matter experts in structuring and organizing technical content of effective learning

Review and revise documentation based on engineering changes, nonconformances, safety updates, and process improvements

Standardize formatting, terminology, and document templates across departments

Support audits (internal and external) by ensuring documentation is accurate and current

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Strong understanding of electrical schematics and one-line diagrams, manufacturing and assembly processes, and Lockout/Tagout and electrical safety principles

Experience developing JHAs, SOPs, and structured work instructions

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and document control systems

Strong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical specifications

Exceptional attention to detail

Strong organizational and time management skills

Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, concise documentation

Collaboration and cross-functional communication

Required / Preferred Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

3+ years of technical writing experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment

Experience with electrical equipment, industrial control panels, switchgear, or power distribution systems

Supervisory Duties None.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements This position operates in a professional office adjoining an active manufacturing facility. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Use of standard office equipment is necessary, and the employee may need to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.

The pay range for this role is:

85,000 - 95,000 USD per year (ESS Metron - Denver, CO)
