Technical Designer - Workplace - Senior

Your Role As a Gensler Technical Designer, your job is to combine creativity and technical knowledge with a focus on project delivery and an understanding of how to produce functionally beautiful designs for our clients. You will help drive delivery of a project, collaborate with office and regional technical leaders and develop delivery and process improvement strategy. You have exceptional design skills, a background in architecture or design, and a portfolio of innovative project work.

What You Will Do

Work with the Design Director(s) and project team(s) on conceptual designs, presentations, schematic design, design development, construction documents and production

Perform technical design assignments that include programming client needs, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, space planning and construction documentation

Conduct and document site visits, process submittals, substitution requests, and RFI’s during construction

Manage client, team and project communication and coordination, including full documentation coordination with structural, MEP, lighting, AV, landscape and civil consultants

Produce graphic presentations, 3D renderings, plans, elevations, details and sections through to detailed construction drawings

Resolve complex design issues with innovative and practical solutions

Support project sustainability targets throughout project phases and actively engage in delivering them. Coordinate sustainability targets with project consultants and engineers

Implement sustainable design strategies in every project stage and investigate solutions to sustainable design challenges

Work collaboratively with the team to optimize sustainability performance through design iterations and research

Lead climate focused analysis and studies for each project

Contribute to office activities, initiatives, and learning programs

Your Qualifications

Advanced degree in Architecture or Design preferred.

10+ years of relevant architecture and design experience, with a strong background in the design and delivery of multiple building typologies of varying scale

Proficient in design modeling/visualization tools including but not limited to Revit, Rhino, Enscape; having experience with Excel and computational tools like grasshopper/dynamo is also a plus

Proficient in production software including but not limited to the Adobe Creative Suite, experience working with video/animation software such as After Effect and Premier is a plus

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Outstanding graphic presentation skills

Ability to lead a team and develop collaborative relationships across the firm, with clients, and with other key partners

Creative, original thinking and technically biased, demonstrated through a strong creative and technical portfolio

Knowledge in sustainable design principles required

LEED, WELL, Fitwell, LFA or other rating systems accreditation preferable

Previous experience in sustainable design projects preferable. Especially built projects with LEED, Living Building Challenge, WELL Building Standard, Fitwel and /or Net Zero Building certification.

Demonstrate a collaborative and integrated approach towards achieving high sustainability project goals.

Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines efficiently

Your Design Technology Qualifications

Essential:

Deep understanding and expertise in Autodesk Revit for design authoring, documentation, data extracts and project delivery

Deep understanding and expertise in the strategic planning, setup of BIM projects, and troubleshooting, specifically in the context of Revit and allied workflows

Deep understanding and expertise with collaboration in the BIM context, including cloud-based markups, consultant coordination and clash detection

Desirable:

Good working knowledge and experience in Rhino for design authoring

Good knowledge and experience with interoperability workflows between Rhino & Revit throughout all the stages of a project

Good knowledge and experience with real-time rendering processes, and material creation & management within the context of integrated BIM and parametric workflows

Good knowledge and experience with Computational Design applications such as Grasshopper and/or Dynamo

Good knowledge and experience with simulation principles and processes, including interpretation, and application of results. Familiarity with Performance Design applications such as Autodesk Insight, Sefaira, and Ladybug tools

Good knowledge and experience in the use of VR walkthroughs and panoramas for client presentations, consultant coordination and internal design reviews

Licensure/Certification:

None required, though licensure in progress is welcomed

*The base salary range will be estimated between $90,000 - $131,000, plus bonuses and benefits and contingent on relevant experience.
