Stokes Lawrence is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Director of Finance to join our management team. This role will be primarily based in our Seattle office, with quarterly visits to our Yakima office.
As our Director of Finance, you will be an integral partner to the firm’s management team, working closely with firm leaders to support decision-making and contribute to shared goals through strong collaboration. This position offers the opportunity to work with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and other firm leaders who value open communication, mutual support, and strengthening the firm through thoughtful, strategic growth.

The Director of Finance has overall responsibility for both managerial accounting and financial accounting of the firm. This role involves the preparation and preservation of integrity for all financial reports, general and subsidiary ledgers, and shareholder records, ensuring accuracy and compliance. The Director controls and manages cash flow, the firm’s investments, and the firm’s banking relationships alongside the COO; prepares reports for internal and external purposes; and participates in the firm’s 401(k) and Finance Committees. The Director of Finance also administers the firm’s 401(k) Profit Sharing Plan under the direction of the 401(k) Committee. This position provides leadership and direction for the daily operations of the accounting department, including staffing, training, workflow management, and quality assurance. The Director ensures that accounting systems, procedures, and reports are reliable and transparent, and that internal controls are consistently followed. In collaboration with the COO, Finance Shareholder, and Executive Committee, the Director of Finance advises and implements short and long-term financial and business strategies to support the firm’s goals. Specific Responsibilities:
Responsible for all financial operations of the firm, including hands-on general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, cash flow management, and budgeting. Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements, management reports, and key performance indicators to support strategic decision-making. Work with COO to manage banking and investment relationships. Responsible for monitoring compliance with loan covenants and ensuring strong internal financial controls. Lead the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts; provide regular financial updates to the COO, Finance Shareholder, and Executive Committee. Responsible for handling payroll, tax filings, and regulatory reporting to ensure compliance with applicable laws and firm policies. Administer the firm’s 401(k) Profit Sharing Plan and coordinate annual audits and filings. Supervise and mentor the accounting staff, fostering collaboration, accountability, and professional development. Partner with firm leadership on compensation planning, insurance renewals, and financial aspects of employment agreements. Provide financial insights and recommendations to support firm strategy, growth, and operational efficiency. The successful candidate will possess:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA a plus). 7+ years of progressive finance or accounting experience—law firm or professional services background preferred. Proven ability to lead a team and collaborate across departments. Strong analytical mindset and excellent communication skills. This position reports to the COO. Compensation and Benefits:
Compensation will be determined based on the individual’s qualifications and experience. The expected salary range for this position is $165,000 to $225,000 annually.
