Job Summary Reporting directly to the Dean of the College of Humanities, Social Sciences and the Arts, the Director of Operations provides management and guidance for the College of HSSA and supervises staff and student personnel in these units. The incumbent manages and oversees the business functions—finance, budget, registration, procurement, automation, and customer service—interprets, executes, and makes recommendations to solve operational, human resource, and fiscal questions to achieve organizational goals. This position serves as a critical member of the Dean's leadership team, collaborates closely with the Dean and Department Chairs to ensure that management and administrative functions operate efficiently and are aligned with strategic goals, and, in the Dean's absence, provides leadership and acts on the Dean's behalf.
Key Qualifications
This position requires a bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years of administrative and technical experience, preferable in a complex academic work environment, including 3 years of progressively responsible and applicable leadership and/or supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience to provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
Higher education experience and prior fiscal responsibility for developing and managing complex budgets is highly preferred.
Experience as an administrative manager in a complex field or industry is highly desirable.
Advanced proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) required.
Knowledge of Google Suite, database query spreadsheets and databases, and PeopleSoft preferred.
Salary and Benefits
Salary is a monthly placement that depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $7,084 to $10,167.
This position is a member of the Management Personnel Plan and serves at the pleasure of the President.
Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. Additionally, 15 paid holidays are offered each year and a Personal Holiday may be taken at any time.
Sonoma State University is also a Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) Employer.
