Social Video Producer
Fortune, New York, NY, United States
Job Description
Fortune is seeking a multitalented, detail-obsessed Social Video Producer to create original, platform-native video for TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube Shorts, and emerging formats. This full-time role is part of Fortune’s social team and will turn our newsroom’s biggest business stories, franchises, and live events into highly engaging vertical video that drives viral viewership and sustained audience growth.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned video editor with strong news judgment and a passion for visual storytelling, comfortable both on camera and behind the scenes interviewing high-profile business leaders. You bring a deep understanding of TikTok and other social platforms, and a proven ability to translate complex business stories into concise, scroll-stopping videos—ranging from short-form explainers and news hits to recurring series and videos with on-camera talent. Bonus if you have field, studio, and post-production experience.
Responsibilities
Pitch, develop, produce, and edit original vertical video series and short-form news content specifically for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn, and other social platforms.
Program TikTok and other platforms with a clear understanding of audience behavior, analytics, and optimization best practices, using performance data to inform pitches and iterate on formats.
Appear on camera when needed and direct on-camera talent, crafting strong hooks, questions, and scripts tailored to social audiences.
Identify, monitor, and cover breaking news, live events, Fortune Live Media conferences, and top global business stories, quickly turning them into social-first video.
Produce, write, and edit original content under tight deadlines, from daily hits to more developed series and franchises.
Utilize graphics, original footage, archives, and licensed/third-party material to create visually engaging videos that educate and inform viewers.
Shoot and produce in a variety of environments—studio, field, and conference settings—with working knowledge of cameras, audio, and lighting.
Comfort experiment with AI-powered tools for editing and research and using them to streamline workflows without compromising editorial quality.
Qualifications
Has a minimum of 3 years of professional video journalism or social video production experience at a publisher, digital media outlet, or agency, with a strong emphasis on TikTok and vertical video.
Has proven experience writing, producing, and editing digital video for social platforms, with a portfolio that demonstrates strong on-platform performance and storytelling.
Possesses general knowledge of current events and business news.
Has sound editorial news judgment and understands how to frame business stories for broad, social-native audiences.
Is highly detail-oriented and thorough while working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Has proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro; familiarity with After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator is a plus.
Brings solid technical knowledge of camera gear, audio, and lighting for both studio and field shoots; experience with Sony and Canon cameras is a plus.
