What You Will Do
Underwrite commercial lines insurance policies, including General Liability, Worker's Compensation, Property, Commercial Auto insurance, for account exposures such as contractors, wholesalers, retailers, restaurants, manufacturers, etc.
Analyze and evaluate new submissions and renewal accounts to determine acceptability within the parameters outlined in the Underwriting Authority CL Underwriter Document.
Review, interpret, and process data from various sources, including application forms and loss history.
Articulate and practice principles of risk management, including knowledge of exposure/hazard identification and control.
Communicate appetite, underwriting standards, declination reasons, and coverage advantages to agents and internal partners to ensure profitability and generate high‑quality new business submissions.
Cultivate strong business relationships internally and externally by proactively communicating and conveying ownership and commitment.
Anticipate and meet the needs of customers, readily adjusting priorities to respond to pressing and changing client requirements.
Manage a high‑volume agency assignment with increased authority limits while maintaining expected quality control results.
Analyze the agent’s book of business through risk characteristics profile/evaluation to determine corrective actions or opportunities for profitable growth.
Maintain a complete understanding of management information data, including Power BI.
Prepare material for agency reviews and work with the account underwriter on agency production and loss ratio improvement plans.
What You Need
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
Minimum 5 years of experience in Commercial Lines Middle Market Underwriting preferred.
Strong knowledge of General Liability, Worker's Compensation, Property, and Commercial Auto lines of business.
Proven track record of successful underwriting and portfolio management in the middle‑market segment.
Excellent analytical and decision‑making skills.
Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship‑building abilities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced and dynamic environment.

Commercial Lines Underwriting Specialist: $110,000 - $160,000
Executive Commercial Lines Underwriter: $90,000 - $154,000
Commercial Lines Underwriter: $57,000 - $90,000
Senior Commercial Lines Underwriter: $73,500 - $111,000
The final salary to be paid and position within the internal salary range is reflective of the employee’s work experience, geographic location, education, certification(s), scope and responsibilities, and additional qualifications.
This position also comes with eligibility for a Variable Compensation Bonus plan.
