JOB SUMMARY This role oversees the effective and efficient management of all aspects of the Produce and Floral Department including customer service, department conditions, profitability, staff supervision, productivity, administrative task and workplace conditions and safety protocols. To advance the Dill Pickle Food Co‑op’s End Statements through product selection, relationships, and communication, and to develop and position the Co‑op for Ends Statement alignment in the present and for future growth and development.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Seek solutions that maintain the co‑op’s best interests.
Ensure prompt, friendly, helpful customer service by Produce staff.
Attend Store Leadership Team meetings and Marketing meeting (as requested)
Prepare a weekly and monthly department checklist of tasks and goals for Department Leads.
Set standards for displays and signage in Produce Front‑of‑House in consultation with the General Manager.
Participate in National Co‑op Grocers Fresh programs.
Visit other Produce locations for price comparisons, ideas for displays and products.
Ensure the department operates in compliance with health department regulations.
Enforce and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning responsibilities within Produce department.
Ensure Lead provides product information for customers, staff, and newsletter.
Establish record‑keeping and pricing procedures to meet margin goals and ensure accurate, up‑to‑date records of costs of production.
Ensure department staff maintain proper storage and labeling for the sales floor and back stock.
Ensure department equipment is in working order. Troubleshoot with GM to troubleshoot problems and arrange for repairs where necessary.
Facilitates a monthly count and recording of Inventory for entire department.
Create and maintain SOP’s for Produce department staff.
LEADERSHIP
Commit to and adhere to all leadership standards for conduct, communication and professionalism.
Participate in regular Manager‑On‑Duty shifts and perform all necessary responsibilities.
Provide effective leadership for the Produce department team that fosters excellent communication, setting and monitoring of team goals and strong planning processes.
Work with HR to hire qualified applicants following established policy and workplace requirements.
Work with HR to ensure appropriate training for new hires.
Remains attuned with department morale and takes decisive action where necessary to improve morale.
Conduct timely, documented performance evaluations and disciplinary action notices in accordance with established policy.
Schedule hours for the department within budget, review time cards and report any issues to GM as appropriate.
Ensure department staff are informed of storewide meetings and policy changes.
Participate in development of operating and capital budgets with GM and Finance Department for the store.
Review financial reports of department performance and take appropriate action as needed.
Ensure cooler and display fixtures are regularly cleaned, and seasonal merchandising changes are completed timely and in accordance to the GM’s direction.
Perform other tasks assigned by the Store Manager/HR/General Manager.
Schedule monthly department meetings with Produce Staff.
Adhere to weekly COG budgets set by the Finance Manager.

Requirements ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Excellent customer service skills.
Bilingual preferred but not required.
Two or more years of Produce experience with strong leadership and demonstrated success in leadership, hiring, training, evaluating and directing is a requirement.
Knowledge of and passion for produce, including sustainable growing practices and seasonality.
Knowledge of how to prepare produce items sold; is familiar with the different flavors, textures and varieties of fruits & vegetables.
Knowledge of current trends in the produce industry.
Able to pass a criminal local/state/federal background screening and eligible to work within the USA.
Applicants must be available to work holidays, evenings and weekends.
Must be organized and able to create long and short range goals and administer and work with budgets to ensure product availability with minimal out of stocks.
Must have excellent communications skills, an ability to listen and provide clear instructions.
Ability to lift 50 lbs often.
Manual dexterity with hazardous equipment.
Ability to stand for long periods.
Ability to work in close quarters with other people.
Ability to read department financial reports.
Ability to stand, bend, reach and lift repeatedly for extended periods of time.
