Summary
Boone County is proud to launch a brand-new, first-of-its-kind Childcare Center dedicated to serving the children of Boone County Government’s first responders. This innovative center will provide high-quality early childhood education in a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment that supports the unique schedules and needs of emergency personnel families.
We are seeking a Deputy Director who will play a critical leadership role in supporting the daily operations of the center. Working closely with the Director, the Deputy Director helps ensure operational excellence, regulatory compliance, staff supervision, and exceptional family engagement. The department’s mission is to support Boone County’s public safety personnel by offering extended-hours childcare tailored to their demanding schedules. The center will provide services to families of dispatchers, deputies, and detention officers, operating 18 hours a day, seven days a week.
This is a unique opportunity to help build and shape a center from the ground up while supporting the families who serve our community every day.

Duties Position Details
Status: Full-time, exempt, benefited
Schedule: Primarily 9:30 – 6:15 p.m., Monday – Friday but must be able to work any shifts as needed to support center operations and staffing requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Support daily operations of the childcare center
Assist the Director in ensuring compliance with all state licensing regulations and Boone County policies
Provide supervision, mentorship, and leadership to teaching and support staff
Maintain documentation, records, and office systems
Communicate effectively with families regarding enrollment, policies, and child development
Provide classroom support as needed
Assist with scheduling, staffing coordination, and operational logistics
Ensure a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for all children
Promote inclusive practices and culturally responsive care
Requirements Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; must be at least 18 years old in accordance with applicable state/licensing regulations
Five (5) or more years of relevant Early Childhood experience OR Child Development Associate (CDA) credential (or equivalent certification) and three (3) or more years of experience in a childcare or educational setting
At least one (1) year of leadership, supervisory, or management experience
At least one (1) year of office experience with strong knowledge of office software, filing systems, and document organization
Valid Food Handlers certification (or ability to obtain prior to employment)
Current CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within designated timeframe)
Must pass required background check and medical examination in accordance with federal, state, and Boone County policies
Must maintain all licensing, certification, and training requirements
Valid driver’s license
Advanced understanding of child development and age-appropriate practices
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Nice To Haves Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field
CDA credential (or equivalent certification)
Five (5) or more years of relevant Early Childhood experience
Five (5) or more years of leadership or management experience
Three (3) or more years of office/administrative experience
Experience in a licensed childcare center, preschool, or early learning program
Familiarity with state licensing regulations and early learning standards
Knowledge of inclusive practices and experience working with diverse learners
Commitment to ongoing professional development in early childhood education
