Job Summary: The Communications Coordinator plays an integral role in supporting the messaging work of the Newport Restoration Foundation to internal and external stakeholders, including NRF employees, NRF Board of Trustees, Tenant Stewards, Restoration Team Partners, donors, NRF partners/collaborators, onsite visitors, digital audience members, and members of the public. This position is responsible for executing the Communications & Audience Development strategy, designed to increase awareness and support of NRF through expanded audiences and revenue growth. The Communications Coordinator will help support the communications work across departments, oversee the implementation of the in-house style guide for publicly‑shared NRF messaging materials, provide NRF website project support, facilitate digital content work, coordinate the marketing and audience engagement strategy for all NRF initiatives—including public programs, the tenant steward rental program, workforce development programs, exhibitions, ticketed admission experiences, store products, and donor campaigns— and develop and strengthen relationships with local press and advertising organizations to promote NRF’s work.

Specific Responsibilities: Communications (40%):

Act as point person for all NRF external communications—working with the Director of Engagement and senior leadership to ensure communications are mission‑driven, consistent, on brand, and audience‑specific

Work with NRF departments to develop and share communications materials that support the mission and brand identity of NRF—including the areas of Development, Exhibitions, Visitor Experience, Preservation, and Education

Manage NRF messaging tools, including writing press releases, website content, and other written materials to be shared with internal and external stakeholders

Ensure written communication materials follow NRF style guidelines—including wayfinding and interpretive signage, promotional signage, and collateral

Coordinate with local and regional press to promote NRF news and initiatives. Develop new relationships and strengthen existing relationships with NRF community press

Oversee and support NRF staff outreach to other external communications platforms (news/blog articles, podcasts, interviews, etc.)

Digital Audience Growth & Development (40%):

Oversee the NRF Website 2.0 project to carry out the next phase of the website project— including building out the Telling Stories Initiative, Keeping History Above Water, and Restoration at Work content—in collaboration with other NRF department staff and interns

Manage digital communications materials, including the monthly eNews, help develop a donor and tenant newsletter, and promote access to digital NRF resources shared through the website

Develop media calendar according to Communications & Audience Development plan—including social media and eNewsletter content

Track and measure digital platform analytics and report on KPIs—develop further evaluation tools to help NRF make data‑driven solutions and grow audiences and revenue

Manage and develop targeted email and social media audiences, and follow best practices to expand these audiences

Advertising (20%):

To support audience and revenue growth, follow advertising plan and budget for NRF initiatives including public programs, tenant stewardship rental program, workforce development programs, exhibitions, ticketed admission experiences, retail, and donor development—including strategy for ad placement (digital, print, and radio media)

Design and develop ad content to be shared across NRF platforms and through digital media

Share NRF promotional materials with local and regional press and digital media partners

Acts as an ambassador for the Newport Restoration Foundation; attends NRF programs, events, and initiative‑related activities to document/oversee documentation and promotion of such activities

Qualifications:

Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in Communications, Journalism, or related field

3+ years experience in a communications role (volunteer experience included)

Excellent communications skills; can communicate effectively with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences (colleagues and other stakeholders)

Experience working with press and media outlets

Demonstrated ability to manage projects from inception through evaluation—including meeting deadlines and effective time‑management

Experience with digital tool analytics (including Google analytics), reporting on KPIs, and data evaluation

Detail‑oriented, organized, and has the demonstrated ability to work independently

A team player who is capable of collaborating across NRF departments

Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite software, including Illustrator and Photoshop, to support in‑house graphic design projects

Experience working or volunteering with a nonprofit in the cultural heritage sector preferred
