Green Century:
Invests in sustainable companies: Instead of investing in environmentally harmful companies, the Green Century Funds selects companies that meet our high environmental, social and governance performance criteria.
Leads an effective shareholder advocacy program: Our team of shareholder advocates directly presses nearly 100 companies every year to improve their corporate sustainability practices.
Supports environmental and public health nonprofit organizations: Green Century is the only mutual fund company in the U.S. wholly owned by environmental and public health nonprofit organizations, and 100% of the profits we earn managing the Green Century Funds can be used to support their critical work.
Job Description: Working closely with Green Century’s communications staff, the intern will be responsible for promoting Green Century’s Funds through the website, digital marketing and design materials. This experience will offer the intern an opportunity to learn about marketing investment products in the sustainable investing space as well as web and digital marketing. We will provide training on marketing strategy, media tracking and follow-up, social media work, basics of the mutual fund industry, and web content.
Specific responsibilities of the advocacy internship position may include, but are not limited to:
Updating and creating new website WordPress pages
Compose social media posts for LinkedIn
Design, write, edit text for fact sheets, brochures, Funds briefs
Draft content for press releases and website pages
Learn about compliance in a financial setting
Find and evaluate photos and graphics for use in marketing materials
Prepare PowerPoint presentations
Assist shareholder advocacy staff, as needed, in preparing for corporate engagements
Assist in outreach around new tools, press releases, webinars, etc.
Design and submit ad and other materials for marketing
Update metrics on a regular basis for email campaigns, social media, and media coverage
Grow and update the media database
Qualifications:
A demonstrated commitment to environmental issues, and an interest in environmentally responsible business practices
Excellent writing and proof readings skills
Strong written and verbal communication skillsProficiency in Microsoft Excel; advanced skills preferred
Marketing, messaging, writing or communications experience
An ability to work both as part of a team as well as deliver independent projects
Hours: The internship position will require 20 hours per week in the spring and fall, and 40 hours per week in the summer. Office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Intern(s) must complete work within that time frame and on a regular schedule. During the fall and spring semesters, work days are flexible to accommodate student schedules and program needs.
Compensation Green Century collaborates with the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) Internship Program which requires that intern applicants either live in Massachusetts or go to undergraduate or graduate school in Massachusetts. Intern candidates should explore the MassCEC website to see if they qualify. Candidates should create a profile on this portal.
