Interns will work full‑time during the summer and part‑time during the academic year. No overtime is required.

Purpose Under supervision, the Social Media Intern will assist in the planning, execution, operational support, and continuous improvement of APM Terminals Los Angeles’ digital communications strategy. The role supports content creation, platform management, community engagement, and performance tracking across social media channels.

As a Social Media Intern, you will help tell the story of how global trade moves through the Port of Los Angeles. From highlighting sustainability initiatives such as our Clean Truck Express Lanes to showcasing the people behind Pier 400 and our community partnerships, you will shape the digital voice of the largest container terminal in North America.

Job Responsibilities

Support and manage APM Terminals Los Angeles’ social media presence across LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, and X.

Create engaging short‑form content, including videos, graphics, and captions that bring port operations, sustainability efforts, workforce stories, and community impact to life.

Capture authentic on‑site content at Pier 400, including events, tours, volunteer activities, and “day‑in‑the‑life” moments.

Engage with online audiences by responding to comments and messages in a professional, on‑brand voice and monitoring relevant industry conversations.

Assist with planning and maintaining a weekly social content calendar (approximately 3–5 posts per week), balancing scheduled and real‑time content opportunities.

Stay current on social media trends and creatively adapt them to logistics, port operations, and sustainability storytelling.

Track and summarize basic performance metrics (engagement, reach, views, follower growth) to inform content improvements.

Support ad‑hoc communications projects and continuous improvement initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Eligible to work in the U.S.

Actively enrolled in an accredited bachelor’s degree program (Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Digital Media, Public Relations, Business, or a related field preferred).

Comfortable using social platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

Experience with content creation tools such as CapCut, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar.

Strong writing skills with attention to tone and audience.

Basic understanding of social media analytics and engagement metrics.

General computer literacy, including Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.

Organized, detail‑oriented, and able to follow brand guidelines.

Adaptable and comfortable working in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.

Willingness to learn about port operations and global logistics.

Physical Demands Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. The employee may sit at a computer terminal for extended periods, occasionally bending or stooping, reaching above shoulder level, walking, standing, or carrying light items up to 25 pounds. Exposure to outdoor and adverse working conditions, moving mechanical parts, wet or humid environments, and occasional high or precarious locations may occur. The employee must hear and speak clearly via phone or headset to communicate with customers.
