JOB DESCRIPTION We are seeking a Director of Product Design to lead user experience design across FOX News Media. You'll build and lead our design team while establishing design excellence, consistency, and innovation across web, mobile, and emerging platforms.

You’ll be responsible for evolving our design practice to leverage AI tools for design productivity and exploring AI-powered user experiences. Success means shipping products that users love while building a high-performing design team and establishing FOX News Media as a leader in digital news experience design.

This role requires someone who can operate strategically (setting design vision and standards) while remaining hands‑on when needed (design reviews, critiques, key projects). You'll partner closely with product leadership to ensure user experience drives product decisions with engineering teams to ensure design feasibility and quality implementation, and with editorial and business stakeholders to balance user needs with business goals.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES Design Leadership & Vision

Set design vision and strategy for FOX News Media digital products across all properties

Drive adoption of AI tools within design team for productivity (AI‑assisted design, prototyping, asset generation)

Establish and maintain design standards, patterns, and quality bar across web, mobile, and emerging platforms

Champion user‑centered design approach in product and business discussions

Define what great user experience means for news, ensuring designs serve both editorial goals and user needs

Ensure responsible, user‑centered approach to AI features in product design

Make key design decisions that affect multiple products or properties

Represent design perspective in senior leadership discussions and product planning

Team Building & Management

Lead UX design team supporting all FOX News Media digital properties

Help the design team develop AI literacy and AI‑native design workflows. Stay current on UX trends, emerging platforms, and design innovation in digital media

Manage designers across disciplines: UX design, UI design, interaction design, technical design

Foster collaborative, high‑performing design culture focused on user impact and craft excellence

Manage design team capacity and allocate resources across competing priorities and business units

Establish design team rituals: design reviews, critiques, portfolio reviews, knowledge sharing

Product Partnership & Collaboration

Partner with product and technical peers throughout product development lifecycle

Ensure design is involved early in product strategy and roadmap planning, not just execution

Collaborate on product vision, user needs definition, and strategic direction

Participate in product planning discussions providing design perspective on feasibility and user impact

Balance product priorities across multiple business units and stakeholder demands

Advocate for user needs and design quality when business or technical pressures create tension

Design Process & Operations

Establish design process that balances speed with quality in fast‑paced news environment

Create efficient workflows for design collaboration with product and engineering teams

Build and maintain design systems that enable consistency and efficiency across properties

Ensure design deliverables (wireframes, mockups, prototypes, specs) meet engineering needs

Manage design tools and resources (Figma, prototyping tools, research tools, AI design tools)

Establish design operations practices: file organization, version control, documentation standards

Measure and improve design team productivity and impact

User Research & Validation

Partner on user research efforts to inform product and design decisions

Ensure design decisions are validated through research, testing, and data

Use data and analytics to measure design impact and identify UX improvement opportunities

Create frameworks for rapid user validation in fast‑moving news environment

Stakeholder Management

Present design work and rationale to senior leadership

Navigate competing stakeholder priorities and design feedback diplomatically

Educate stakeholders on UX principles and design process

Manage design expectations and timelines realistically

Advocate for user needs when stakeholder requests conflict with good UX

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

Typically 10+ years in UX/product design with 3‑5 years in design leadership roles managing design teams

Proven track record building and leading design teams (3+ designers) with demonstrated impact on product and business outcomes

Strong portfolio showing strategic UX work for web and mobile products at scale

Active user of AI design tools or interest in how AI transforms design practice

Proven ability to establish design standards, systems, and quality bar across multiple products

Experience partnering with product and engineering leadership as peer‑level partner

Experience in digital media, publishing, news, content platforms, or consumer products with complex information architectures

Deep expertise across UX disciplines: user research, interaction design, information architecture, visual design, prototyping

Exceptional stakeholder management: can influence product strategy and navigate organizational complexity

Understanding of accessibility, performance, and technical constraints in design

Experience designing for multiple platforms: responsive web, iOS, Android, emerging platforms

Excellent communication and presentation skills: can articulate design rationale to executives and diverse audiences

Regular, on‑site attendance at the workplace a minimum of 3 days per week is an essential function of the position. Selected candidate must be able to reliably meet this requirement.

Design & Technical Skills

Expert in modern design tools: Figma (required), prototyping tools, design systems tools

Strong interaction design and information architecture skills for complex, content‑heavy experiences

Understanding of responsive design, mobile‑first design, and cross‑platform UX

Ability to critique design work constructively and raise quality bar across team

Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design practices

Understanding of web and mobile technologies well enough to discuss feasibility with engineering

Familiarity with design QA and ensuring design implementation quality

NICE TO HAVE, BUT NOT A DEALBREAKER

Experience at news organizations or real‑time, content‑heavy digital products

Background building design teams from scratch or transforming design organizations

Experience with design systems at scale (building, maintaining, evangelizing)

Understanding of news editorial workflows and how design serves journalism

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $160,000.00-230,000.00 annually. This role is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
