About the Architects Foundation Architects Foundation is the philanthropic partner of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Through preservation, public design programs, community engagement, and scholarships, the Foundation advances architecture’s role in shaping a resilient and equitable future.
Under the leadership of a recently appointed Executive Director, the Foundation launched a Built to Last comprehensive campaign to strengthen core infrastructure, expand proven programs, and secure long‑term sustainability. The campaign has strong early momentum: board support is solid, a campaign co‑chair is in place, lead gifts are secured, and the steering committee is prepared to convene with 30 percent of the goal secured, including a capital semi‑quincentennial Grant from the National Park Service.
About the Built to Last Campaign Built to Last is designed to secure the future of The Octagon—a National Historic Landmark—and expand the Foundation’s proven programs in design literacy, resilience, and emerging leadership.
The storied Octagon, located a block from the White House and soon to be the historic front door to the new AIA Global Campus for Architecture & Design, offers a powerful opportunity to connect the public with the role design plays in civic life, wellbeing, and the environment.
The campaign unites four pillars of impact: renewing The Octagon to become America’s oldest LEED‑certified building; advancing design education for tens of thousands of annual visitors through immersive programs and exhibitions; expanding the Communities by Design program to help towns and cities build resilience; and investing in scholarships and fellowships that empower the next generation of diverse design leaders. With federal support already secured and early momentum in place, Built to Last invites donors to safeguard a national treasure, strengthen communities, and prepare future architects to meet the defining challenges of the century.
The Opportunity As a contracted Senior Campaign Manager, you will own operational campaign execution. You’ll work directly with the Executive Director, who leads strategy and donor relationships, and the development team, which includes a Senior Manager, Development & Marketing, and a Grant Writer, while you manage the operational infrastructure of the campaign. Your fingerprints will be on the materials donors see, the systems that track progress, and the committee structures that mobilize volunteers.
This role is ideal for a seasoned fundraising professional who wants meaningful, project‑based work—someone who thrives in a fast‑moving environment, takes initiative without waiting to be told, and finds satisfaction in bringing order and momentum to complex campaigns.
What the First 90 Days Look Like In your first month, you’ll orient to the campaign, assess existing materials and infrastructure, and begin activating the steering committee. By month two, you’ll have refined core donor‑facing collateral and established a working rhythm with the committee meeting cadence and members. By the end of month three, you’ll be operating as a trusted contractor—facilitating committee meetings, supporting active solicitations, and anticipating campaign needs before they arise.

Collaborate with Executive Director to activate the Campaign Chair and committee members
Build out and maintain materials for monthly campaign committee meetings
Manage follow‑up systems, accountability tracking, and volunteer engagement infrastructure

2. Campaign Collateral & Communications
Work with the graphic designer to convert the draft campaign case and giving opportunities to polished donor‑ready materials
Produce presentation assets including gift pyramid, campaign overview, and proposal templates
Ensure narrative consistency and quality across all external‑facing content including relevant press releases and the campaign website
3. Donor Documentation & Compliance
Maintain a complete set of gift agreements, pledge forms, and invoice templates
Track all agreements and a calendar for pledges and invoices
Draft a complete suite of campaign policies and governance documentation
4. Prospect Analytics & Pipeline Management
Coordinate a comprehensive wealth screening through Windfall of our constituent database
Develop a segmentation and prioritization strategy for major gift prospects
Integrate findings into campaign tracking tools and leadership reporting
5. Proposal & Solicitation Support
Support drafting and refinement of major donor and institutional funder proposals
Serve as a second eye on customized proposal and solicitation materials
6. Campaign Operations & Execution

Collaborate with Executive Director to prepare for external campaign meetings and solicitations
Provide tactical troubleshooting and operational lift as the campaign evolves

Possess high emotional intelligence, and work well with senior leadership and volunteer committees
