Senior Media Specialist

Under the direction of the Communications Manager, the Senior Media Specialist supports the City’s public communication efforts across digital and print platforms. This position manages day-to-day website updates, social media content, digital media production, and newsletter layout, while assisting with broader communications initiatives and special projects. The following duties are representative of the position. The incumbent may perform additional related work as assigned.

Manage and update content for the City’s website using the content management system.

Develop, schedule, and publish content across the City’s social media platforms.

Photograph and document community events and City programs.

Assist with channel programming and multimedia production.

Design and layout content for the City newsletter and other print and digital publications.

Maintain and organize the City’s historic digital photo and media archive.

Support communications campaigns, projects, and production timelines.

Attend and provide media support at evening and weekend meetings or special events, as needed.

Process invoices and assist with administrative tracking related to communications services.

Perform other related duties as required.

Knowledge of:

Website content management systems and digital publishing practices

Social media platforms, trends, and engagement strategies

Graphic design principles and digital photography

Video production and non-linear editing

Current editing and design software, including Final Cut Pro and Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator), as well as Microsoft Office

Ability To:

Work independently while managing multiple deadlines

Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing

Maintain strong working relationships with staff, vendors, and community members

Understand City operations and coordinate with various departments and external partners

Exercise sound judgment in public communications

Education And Experience: Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills will be considered. A typical qualifying background includes a Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field. Experience in website management, social media administration, graphic design, and multimedia production is highly desirable. Relevant professional experience may substitute for formal education.

Licenses and Certifications: Possession of a valid California driver’s license.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions:

Ability to read small print and view digital screens for extended periods

Occasional lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 20 pounds

Work performed in both indoor and outdoor environments

May require use of a personal vehicle for work-related duties

May require evening or weekend work

Variable schedule, up to 30–40 hours per week initially, not to exceed 1,000 hours in a fiscal year
