Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Truss Designer role located in Bay Minette, AL. The Truss Designer will be responsible for creating precise and detailed designs for roof and floor trusses based on architectural drawings. Day-to-day tasks include collaborating with customers to determine project needs, reviewing and interpreting structural and timber-related specifications, and producing accurate truss layouts to meet project requirements. Additionally, you will provide excellent customer service and work closely with other departments to ensure on-time and high-quality project delivery.

Job Duties:

Create designs that are accurate and meets building code and specifications in plans

read blueprints and recognize problems/errors to be resolved before designing or during the design process

Create layouts that are easy to read, informative, clearly marked and accurate

Optimize truss designs to ensure the most accurate, effective and cost-efficient use of available resources, including materials and manpower

Provide detailed information on hardware and related building materials needed

Meet with customers or contractors on-site to discuss/resolve changes, issues, complaints, etc.

Maintain thorough and accurate records for each job

MUST have 5 or more years of experience with Mitek design software

Knowledge of all state and local building codes related to truss design is required

Must be able to read and understand blueprints

Knowledge of CAD and drafting principles

Broad knowledge of engineering fundamentals and the construction industry

Accept constructive criticism to help be a better designer

Able to retain information accurately

Have strong communication skills to work with management, team members, architects, engineers, customers and their contractors

Ability to manage your time to efficiently complete jobs on time

Visit to job site will be required to resolve design/engineering issues

Mathematical skills required to calculate loads, uniform loads, load transfer, heel heights, truss height and etc. as well as those needed for calculations related to financial aspects of the job

Understanding of product knowledge and uses of those products

Able to work alone efficiently without consistent supervision

Keep all jobs correctly marked as to what status they are in

Physical Requirements include but are not limited to:

Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. as need without assistance

Ability to stand for long periods of time

Walk, reach, stoop, squat, climb, or kneel on repetitive basis as needed

Other Requirements:

2 years of college preferred

4 years of work experience

Able to use Microsoft Office applications

Knowledge of Mitek software

Reliable transportation

Must pass background check

Must pass non-DOT drug screen

This is NOT a remote position. Applicant must report to production facilities/offices daily, however travel to local worksites may be needed occasionally.
