Staff Civil Designer
Contract-to-Hire Opportunity

We are seeking a
Staff Civil Designer
for a contract-to-hire opportunity in
Kansas City, Missouri . This role will support a variety of civil engineering projects by contributing to planning, site evaluations, analytical design, and preparation of construction documentation. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in civil site design and proficiency with industry-standard design software.
The Staff Civil Designer will work closely with engineers, project managers, and other designers in a collaborative, multi-discipline environment to develop high-quality design deliverables for a diverse portfolio of projects.
Key Responsibilities
Support multiple phases of civil engineering projects including planning, proposal preparation, site evaluations, analytical design, and report preparation.
Prepare construction documentation and environmental plans as part of a project team.
Design civil engineering components including:
Site design and land development
Roadway design
Storm drainage systems and stormwater management facilities
Water and sanitary sewer utilities
Sediment and erosion control plans
Traffic control plans
Airport and facility site design
Develop production drawings including design layout, calculations, and analysis for assignments of varying complexity.
Execute civil design assignments using established methods and standard techniques, including sizing system components and refining conceptual sketches.
Implement design revisions and incorporate markups on ongoing projects.
Analyze reports, maps, drawings, tests, and topographical or geological data to support project design and development.
Apply relevant design codes, standards, and specifications to ensure compliance with project requirements.
Conduct quality reviews of design drawings within scope, budget, and schedule parameters.
Perform volume calculations for excavation, dredging, and site grading activities.
Incorporate project schedules, budgets, and design criteria into civil layouts and documentation.
Maintain organized records of project drawings, plot files, and related documentation.
Perform additional duties as assigned while complying with company policies and standards.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Drafting Technology or related field with 7+ years of related experience, OR
Associate Degree with 8+ years of related experience, OR
9+ years of progressive civil detailing and design experience.
Technical Skills
Expert proficiency in design software including:
AutoCAD
Civil 3D
MicroStation
Microsoft Excel
Advanced knowledge of civil design principles, calculations, and design systems.
Strong understanding of civil engineering theory and practices, with familiarity of related engineering disciplines.
Ability to effectively use discipline-specific design software to produce accurate design deliverables.
Additional Skills
Ability to collaborate effectively with Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers in a multi-discipline environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
High level of attention to detail and quality control.
