Reports to VP of TBR Sales
Location Remote
Job Purpose As Hankook Tire’s brand awareness grows, it is an exciting time to join our team as a Sales Engineer representing one of the fastest growing tire brands in America. This role will lead real-world testing and validation of tire products across various vehicle platforms and road conditions. This role is critical in ensuring product performance, safety, durability, and regulatory compliance through rigorous field evaluations. The ideal candidate brings deep technical knowledge of tire behavior, strong leadership capabilities, and experience in data-driven testing environments.
Responsibilities Test Planning & Coordination
Design and implement field test plans for new tires, compounds, and construction types.
Define test metrics and success criteria in alignment with R&D and product teams.
Schedule and oversee field tests at proving grounds, customer fleets, or on-road conditions.
Record Hankook and competitor mileage data/wear rate at designated end user/fleet customers, current and prospect customers.
Test Execution & Supervision
Lead and supervise testing campaigns involving internal fleets or third‑party vehicles.
Ensure accurate installation and calibration of sensors and instrumentation.
Conduct or supervise testing under various regions, terrains, and weather conditions.
Data Acquisition & Analysis
Collect, review, and interpret performance data such as:
Ride comfort.
Handling and traction (dry/wet/snow).
Wear and durability.
Rolling resistance and fuel economy.
Noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH).
Mileage / Mileage comparisons.
Cost analysis (CPM-CP32nd).
Identify performance gaps and recommend design improvements.
Technical Reporting & Documentation
Prepare comprehensive test reports, charts, and analysis summaries.
Present findings to cross-functional teams (R&D, QA, Manufacturing).
Maintain detailed records of test configurations and results.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Liaise with product development, design, and quality teams to integrate feedback.
Participate in customer complaint resolution and support warranty analysis.
Assist in benchmarking studies versus competitor products.
Assist field sales with technical training.
Collaborate with sales and GHQ with end user/Fleet concerns/issues.
Collaborate with GHQ to develop a platform where performance data can be shared.
Troubleshoot product issues/concerns at fleet customers.
Compliance & Safety
Ensure all tests comply with global regulations (e.g., DOT, ECE, BIS, ISO).
Follow and enforce safety protocols during all field activities.
Qualifications Experience
5–10+ years in tire or vehicle field testing, preferably in a tire manufacturing or automotive R&D environment.
Technical Skills
Deep understanding of tire dynamics, wear behavior, and vehicle-tire interaction.
Experience with data acquisition systems (e.g., Dewesoft, CANalyzer, LabVIEW).
Hands‑on knowledge of instrumentation, sensors, and test rig operation.
Familiarity with proving ground or controlled track test procedures.
Soft Skills
Strong leadership and project management capabilities.
Excellent communication, report writing, and presentation skills.
Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams.
Other
Certification in vehicle dynamics or tire engineering preferred (e.g., SAE, ISTVS).
Professional driving certification for controlled testing preferred (e.g., from ARAI or equivalent).
Experience with regulatory approvals and compliance testing preferred.
Must be able to travel 65-75% of the time.
