We work onsite 4+ days a week, with our team based in Auburn Hills, Michigan, and Juneau, Wisconsin. Our team of 700+ passionate pet people thrives on collaboration, innovation, and the occasional office cameo from a four-legged friend.

What You’ll Do As a Cybersecurity Intern at Whisker, you will support the Cybersecurity team by assisting with cybersecurity audits, identifying security gaps, and collaborating with the IT and Engineering teams to propose and document security improvements. This role offers hands‑on experience with assessments, baseline hardening, centralized logging strategy, vulnerability management support, security awareness enablement, and security documentation to demonstrate diligence and consistency.

Assists with cybersecurity audits to understand the environment, critical assets, current controls, and ownership

Identifies and documents security gaps and weaknesses based on audit results, assessments, and reviews

Works with the Cybersecurity team and Whisker IT/Engineering teams to develop proposed remediation approaches, implementation plans, and success measures

Supports security program initiatives as directed, such as: baseline hardening efforts, centralized logging/monitoring evaluation, cloud coverage governance support, and configuration/vulnerability management activities

Assists with solution and vendor evaluation activities as directed, including documenting requirements, comparing options, and summarizing tradeoffs

Assists in implementing and validating security improvements, including monitoring/reviewing alerts and producing status updates or reports as needed

Supports the creation, maintenance, and organization of security documentation (findings, procedures, standards, runbooks, evidence, and reporting) to prove diligence, accountability, and consistency

Helps develop and deliver training or awareness content to educate team members on cybersecurity best practices, including phishing‑awareness support and onboarding enablement

Stays updated on emerging cybersecurity threats, trends, and defensive practices to recommend practical improvements

Will perform additional responsibilities when required

Requirements What You’ll Bring

Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field

Understanding of information systems security principles and technologies, including networking protocols, data encryption, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems

Strong problem‑solving abilities to investigate and resolve security breaches or potential threats

Exceptional focus to monitor and analyze logs and alerts from various technologies

Effective verbal and written communication to collaborate with security teams and other IT departments, and to clearly report findings and recommendations

Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies and evolving security standards and regulations

Basic understanding of programming languages and software development to identify potential vulnerabilities in code and application

Willingness to stay updated on the latest cyber threats and preventive measures

Maintains confidentiality of proprietary information

Ability to maintain a professional atmosphere in a fast‑paced environment with numerous interactions and interruptions

A high degree of initiative, self‑motivation, and ability to motivate others

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with Team Members and colleagues

Comfortable with office pets (cats, dogs)
