Post Doctoral Associate (Zander Lab)

Rutgers University, Piscataway, NJ, United States

Posting Summary

The Zander laboratory at the Waksman Institute of Microbiology looks for an individual that investigates stimulus‑induced 3D epigenome reprogramming in crop and medicinal plant species. Furthermore, the individual will develop cistrome mapping tools for various plant species. Research is carried out in the Zander laboratory, that conducts molecular, genetic and (epi)genomic research to better understand the role of transcription factors and the epigenome dynamics. The individual is needed to conduct research on questions related to transcription factor DNA‑driven 3D epigenome dynamics in immune responses. By using genetic, genomic and biochemical methods, the individual will identify/analyze/characterize molecular determinants for chromatin looping in plants. The individual will report directly to the laboratory Principle Investigator (PI). Overview

Key Duties & Responsibilities: 90 %

Conduct grant‑funded research as directed by the PI (Dr. Zander). This research will include performing genetic, (epi)genomics and proteomic analyses in crop and medicinal plant species. It is expected that the research findings will be published, with the individual contributing to the writing and production of the resulting manuscript. It is also expected that the research findings will be provided as preliminary data for grant proposals, with the individual contributing to the writing and production of such proposals as well as the presentation of results at scientific meetings. 10 %

Train and oversee undergraduate researchers within the lab on related projects. This training will include teaching undergraduates the methodologies of Arabidopsis genetics, genomics, recombinant DNA techniques, protein biochemistry, microscopy, high‑throughput proteomics, PowerPoint oral presentation of data, poster presentation of data, proper record and notebook keeping, and basic laboratory techniques. Expected outcomes: projects completed on time and within budgetary guidelines; analyses conducted using standard and specialized methods and in accordance with established procedures; detailed documentation of all procedures and results; clear communication of all procedures and results; work conducted independently (with supervision as necessary). Preferred Qualifications

In‑depth understanding and hands‑on experience in RNA‑seq and ChIP‑seq sample preparation, data collection, and data processing, preferred.
