The Angelo State Office of Communications and Marketing is made up of storytellers and strategists who believe in the power of communication to shape futures, supporting recruitment, alumni engagement and brand identity. As a key member of the C&M team, the marketing specialist plays a strategic role in elevating the university’s visibility and voice through compelling content and creative campaigns across print, digital and social media platforms. This position collaborates across departments and serves as a central resource for brand‑aligned messaging that supports enrollment, fundraising and community engagement. We’re seeking a strong writer and creative thinker who thrives in a collaborative environment, brings social media savvy and campaign experience, and enjoys innovative content creation on all mediums while driving measurable marketing outcomes. Typical Duties / Job Duties
Manages the planning and implementation of approved social media content and campaigns for the university’s official accounts. Stays up-to-date on current social media trends and platforms, and make appropriate recommendations to the director of communications and marketing. Oversees a team of student workers in social media content creation, as well as the #RamWire Student Influencer Team, and coordinate coverage of campus events. Assists in training campus constituents on social media and digital media practices and policies. Serves as the office’s primary contact with the Office of Admissions for content writing, editing and campaign building. Assists in additional paid digital campaign creation as needed. Works with the Communications and Marketing Director, University Police Chief, and Director of Risk Management to remain updated on crisis management protocol and communications technology, and uses appropriate tools to send crisis alerts as outlined in the university’s Crisis Communication Plan and overseen by the C&M Director. Coordinates office participation at campus events, such as Ram Jams, New Student Orientation and recruitment events, as well as manages and orders promotional items for said events. Prepares periodic administrative and activity reports. Attends trainings, seminars and other meetings as needed; performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge
Knowledge of social media content creation practices across various platforms. Knowledge of fundamental marketing techniques, goal setting, and performance tracking. Skills
Skilled in managing multiple incoming requests and projects with precision and organization. Skilled in writing accurate, audience‑appropriate content for internal and external communications, digital and print materials, and reports. Skilled in using web‑based applications, including content management systems, project management tools, and social media management platforms. Abilities
Ability to think creatively and develop innovative approaches to presenting marketing campaigns. Ability to lead student workers in branded content creation and inspire creativity. Ability to listen carefully to a supervisor and translate direction into desired outcomes. Ability to work effectively with diverse groups, including university administration, faculty, staff, and students. Ability to understand and meet assigned deadlines. Ability to speak confidently in front of groups, such as providing campus tours or training staff. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communication, marketing, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential job duties. At least 2–3 years of experience in social media management. Operational proficiency with major social media platforms, including Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube. Ability to work with digital design and marketing tools, such as Canva and social media management platforms. Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate accurately and effectively. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and Google Workspace. Preferred Qualifications
