PrideStaff is seeking a technical
Import & Tariff Specialist
for a client in Fort Lauderdale. This is a specialized role for a professional who understands that international trade is as much about
financial recovery
as it is about logistics.
We are looking for someone who can move beyond basic data entry to provide high-level HTS classification and aggressive oversight of audits. You will ensure their products are classified correctly before they ship and serve as the primary line of defense against incorrect duty billing from major carriers.
Responsibilities
HTS Classification & Compliance:
Assign and verify 10-digit HTS codes for a complex product catalog. You must be able to defend your classification logic using Section and Chapter notes to ensure we are paying the lowest legal duty rate.
Carrier & Clearance Management:
Act as the main point of contact for
FedEx, DHL, and UPS . You will manage the package clearance process, ensuring carriers notify the company of incoming shipments to prevent them from "guessing" HTS codes.
Audit & Dispute Resolution:
Conduct detailed audits of carrier and broker invoices. You will be responsible for filing
Post-Summary Corrections (PSCs)
and formal disputes to recover overpaid duties and fees.
Duty Drawback & Savings:
Proactively manage the
Duty Drawback
program and track tariff exclusions or preferential trade agreements (USMCA) to minimize total tax liability.
Financial Reconciliation:
Review international invoices against internal purchase orders and customs entries. You will handle month-end close activities, including account reconciliations and journal entries related to import/export activity.
Qualifications
Technical Mastery:
Deep understanding of the
Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS)
and
U.S. Customs regulations (19 CFR) .
Carrier Experience:
Specific experience navigating the unique billing and clearance portals of
FedEx, UPS, and DHL .
Financial Literacy:
Proven ability to reconcile invoices associated with duties and taxes.
Industry Experience:
3+ years in a trade compliance or international accounting role.
Systems:
Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Excel skills. PrideStaff is an equal opportunity employer.
