Communications Specialist

opportunity in

Richland, WA.

Scope Of Work Communications Specialist to support the Department of Energy (DOE) Hanford Field Office (HFO), and Hanford Office of Communications (HOC).

Position Overview Provide support for the DOE, HFO, and HOC in the following areas:

Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies

on highly technical subjects to inform and educate internal and external stakeholders, accommodating varying levels of education and knowledge.

Support planning, preparation, and execution of meetings

(including agendas, presentations, and materials) to ensure effective engagement and outcomes.

Graphics support : Develop, format, and manage graphic content for all communication products.

Newsletter management : Write, format, support, and distribute newsletters and regular informational updates for internal and external audiences.

Invoice review and budget tracking : Support the review and approval of invoices, monitor expenditure, and provide regular budget status updates to HOC leadership.

Requisition creation : Prepare, track, and manage purchase requisitions in coordination with procurement processes.

Support interactions with regulatory groups : Assist with materials, tracking, and communications related to regulatory meetings and compliance activities.

Design and produce high‑level presentations, handouts, and media products

for use by the Hanford site manager and other senior officials to inform audiences about Hanford's challenges, successes, and programs.

Create communication products

including highly visual briefing books, infographics, flowcharts, brochures, and digital slideshows.

Preparation of HQ reports : Compile, draft, and format periodic reports as required by U.S. Department of Energy Headquarters.

Maintain electronic office monitors : Regularly update and manage content for digital displays in the office environment.

Stakeholder engagement materials : Develop and coordinate products for engagement with media, requiring technical research and understanding.

Office Bulletin Board Management : Create and maintain an inventory of all office common area bulletin boards; ensure displays are current, relevant, and in alignment with Hanford communications objectives; conduct a thorough audit of all bulletin boards twice annually and provide results and recommendations to HOC leadership.

Grant Support : Aid in grant‑related activities, including drafting, reviewing, and supporting the evaluation components required for grant applications and reporting.

Other duties as assigned by HOC management

to support the dynamic needs of the office.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum of 10 years' experience in communications, graphics support, or related field.

Experience writing and designing for external non‑technical audiences on highly technical topics.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion in all matters.

Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge of DOE program management practices, policies, and procedures.
