The Designer – Facilities Engineering is a mid to senior‑level technical design professional responsible for developing and maintaining facility design documentation, BIM models, and as‑built records in support of capital improvements, tenant improvements, infrastructure upgrades, and sustainment projects across an active facilities portfolio.
This role supports Facilities Engineering by translating internal customer concepts into coordinated construction documents using Autodesk Revit and related technical software. The Designer V ensures compliance with drafting standards, internal campus standards, and applicable codes while coordinating across engineering disciplines (architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, civil).
The position operates with minimal supervision, organizes design work phases, and provides solutions to moderately complex facility design challenges within an operational environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
Develop and maintain Revit models and technical drawings for existing and proposed facilities.
Produce construction documents aligned with internal drafting standards.
Update and manage as‑built documentation and record drawings for campus facility models.
Support capital project planning, minor works projects, and infrastructure modifications.
Coordinate multidisciplinary facility designs including architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and site systems.
Perform field verification of existing conditions and incorporate findings into models and drawings.
Identify design conflicts and propose practical, constructible solutions within operational constraints.
Coordinate designs with input from the Facilities Senior Architect and Design Team Lead.
Support engineering change documentation and technical review processes.
Maintain document control organize technical facility information.
Communicate effectively with engineers, project managers, maintenance personnel, and external consultants.

Job Qualifications
Typically requires an associate's degree, technical/trade school training or equivalent and six or more years of progressive experience using 3D CAD solid modeling. May substitute additional work experience in lieu of education.
Six (6)+ years of progressive experience using Autodesk Revit in building or facilities environments.
Strong understanding of engineering design principles and technical drawing standards.
Working knowledge of ANSI Y14.5 drafting standards.
Proficiency in one or more technical engineering software applications (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, Procore).
Experience working within existing facilities and renovation environments.
Ability to interpret engineering calculations, sketches, and redlines.
Ability to apply new concepts accurately in a dynamic, evolving facilities environment.
Strong organizational and coordination skills.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive facility and infrastructure information.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting facilities engineering within industrial, institutional, defense, or large campus environments.
Experience maintaining large building portfolio BIM databases.
Familiarity with building codes (California Building Code), life safety standards, and accessibility requirements.
Experience supporting construction administration and field coordination.
Knowledge of asset management systems and digital document platforms (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, Matterport).

Focuses heavily on existing conditions, retrofits, and infrastructure sustainment.
Requires coordination within active, occupied facilities.
