In support of PPCWNY’s mission, the Outreach and Education Specialist is responsible for understanding and communicating information about a wide range of sexuality, relationship, and reproductive health issues while working with a variety of individuals at all age levels. The primary focus will be the development and delivery of outreach programs geared toward reproductive health awareness, healthy relationships, and self-empowerment.

Essential Functions Needs Assessment Conducts an assessment to identify needs, presents available options (programs or services), and determines appropriate follow‑up.

Program Development & Delivery Identifies designs and presents programs that meet community educational needs such as healthy relationships, safe sex, birth control, teen pregnancy, etc. Delivers evidence-based programs with fidelity to youth in a variety of settings. Conducts community outreach and education, participates in community events: health fairs, school and college presentations, community organizations, etc. Ensures proper documentation is written for client records, annual and funder reports, etc. Aids and/or refers youth to obtain comprehensive family planning services, health services or other essential support services as identified. Is aware of annual goals and objectives of the organization and participates in their attainment by focusing on the education and counseling needs of clients and patients (sensitivity and diversity training, etc.). As needed, develops and presents in‑service programs to other PPCWNY staff.

Committee Participation Attends and works on internal organization committees as requested. Attends community meetings as a representative of the organization, as required.

Other Accountability Activities Completes required reporting accurately and timely as designated. Participates in the annual update of all reference materials used in the Education and Clinic areas (flyers, brochures, referral lists, operation procedure manuals, etc.) to ensure consistency. Participates in affiliate initiatives. Participates in programs to ensure that cross training occurs supporting the clinic, as needed (pre‑ and post‑HIV counseling). Works on other projects as assigned.

Requirements Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Health Education, or a related field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience; or one of the following equivalencies: 4 years relevant work experience. Associate’s degree in a related field plus two years’ experience in a community educator role. 3 years work experience in a community educator role and cultural competence with a demographic population. 2 years work experience in a PPCWNY program and cultural competence with a demographic population.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to facilitate discussion / teach classes to youth in a variety of settings on reproductive health topics such as reproductive anatomy, contraceptive methods, STIs, and HIV/AIDS. Experience working with youth and demonstrated ability to be inclusive and non‑stigmatizing in their role. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, at various work sites as assigned. PC skills needed in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Must be very organized and able to handle multiple priorities. Must have excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Proficiency in two or more languages preferred. Working Conditions Standard office environments at PPCWNY and various client sites, including but not limited to schools, community centers, and public buildings. Well‑lit/ventilated.

Physical Requirements Possess sufficient mobility to perform the essential functions listed in this Job Description with or without accommodations. Ability to lift 25 pounds with or without accommodations. May experience visual fatigue working at computer with potential extended periods of sitting. Ability to travel to all agency and community locations as assigned.

Work Schedule This is a full‑time, 40‑hour a week position; regular schedule will be Monday – Friday with occasional evenings and weekends.

Benefits & Compensation At PPCWNY, we are committed to equitable compensation practices and transparency. Pay for this position ranges from $20.74 to $24.05/hour. Actual compensation will be determined by experience and other factors permitted by law.
