You’ll be part of a growing Private Wealth and Advisor Service team – led from our Boston office – developing and maintaining relationships with financial advisors, RIAs, and some institutional consulting firms through discussion of and investment in the Payden U.S. mutual funds, CITs, 3(c)7, and separate account strategies. That means both individual advisor/OCIO and some institutional-consultant type work, representing the firm, our views, and our strategies to firms and their research teams. Your primary focus would be medium-to-large size RIAs (generally non-wire “private wealth” firms), independent broker-dealers, regional banks, and OCIOs. You will work alongside our current External in the region, with various team responsibilities as well. The person will be responsible for their own segment of clients, with occasional travel. Entrepreneurial thinking is both necessary and important. It’s about team, and firm success – not how many “dials” you made last week. We have a regional, not channel, business model – you would work out of our Los Angeles Office (Firm HQ) and focus on the Western U.S. region as we seek to expand our coverage. Job Responsibilities
Raise new assets in our various commingled (primarily 40Act) funds and strategies Call on and interact constantly with advisor prospects, OCIOs, and clients – your focus will generally be in-office to start but migrate to more in-person meetings to be more hybrid over time, but skills via Zoom, the phone, email, other web portals, etc. are necessary too Search for new opportunities – using services like Dakota, 13f & ADV filings – be able to search and develop new business opportunities and begin to cultivate new relationships Confidently – and on your own – provide relevant market insight, product information, and investment ideas (investors will accompany you from time to time) Strategize with the broader Private Wealth & Advisor Team and institutional client portfolio managers on various marketing ideas, materials, business priorities – you will be empowered and heard Help facilitate investments within our Payden strategies on a National Account level through platform agreements, fees, availability, etc. Represent the priorities and ideas of the broader Team to the firm and outside groups Consider and evaluate vendors Interact and collaborate with our fund operations effort Qualifications
2-3yrs preferred background in mutual fund/ETF sales experience Heavy on consultative new business skills A positive and higher-energy human being A resourceful self-starter – if you find yourself asking “Who’s doing that?” the answer is “You are!” Organized Intellectually curious and intelligent and passionate about investing – bond knowledge is critical Understands and values an independent firm Excellent people skills: you are engaging, trusting, and people want to work with you Able to hear plenty of “No” … and try, try again Friendly, and genuinely enjoy a team environment, yet ready to run with projects independently Relationship building is important to you Strong verbal and written communication skills with a desire to take feedback from your talented peers Hunger to build a business as part of small team You believe the joy is in the chase, not in maintaining status quo (you root for David, not Goliath) Education
