Mechanical Designer – Heavy Industrial / Piping Overview We are seeking an experienced

Mechanical Designer

with strong 3D modeling and piping design expertise to support complex projects across utility, industrial, water/wastewater, oil & gas, and power & energy facilities. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative engineering environment, enjoys owning design packages, and is ready to help grow a high-performing design team.

Key Responsibilities

Perform discipline-specific mechanical and piping design with minimal supervision from technical staff.

Own and develop the discipline BIM model in alignment with project scope, Digital Delivery Plans (DDP), and required Levels of Development (LOD).

Produce high-quality mechanical and piping designs using CADD tools for industrial, utility, and institutional power & energy facilities.

Prepare construction-ready deliverables, including:

Site layout drawings and equipment arrangements

P&IDs

Piping isometrics, orthographic drawings, and section views

Composite arrangement drawings

Bills of material, sketches, lists, and other detailed documentation

Route piping in 2D and 3D environments using AutoCAD, CADWorx, AutoCAD Plant 3D, AutoCAD P&ID, Navisworks, and LiDAR data.

Coordinate closely with electrical, structural, civil, and other disciplines throughout the project lifecycle.

Apply strong knowledge of engineering planning, drafting, detailing, and construction document production.

Maintain high standards for model health, document accuracy, and quality control.

Support team collaboration by mentoring junior designers and working closely with engineers and project managers.

Participate in design reviews and 3D coordination processes.

Potential to lead multidisciplinary design teams and CAD staff on detailed design projects.

Required Skills & Experience

5–10 years of mechanical or piping design experience in heavy industrial environments.

Proficiency in Plant 3D or CADWorx (Plant 3D preferred if CADWorx is not available).

Strong experience in mechanical drawings, piping systems, and industrial facility design.

Experience with:

P&IDs

Site layouts

Equipment arrangements

Piping isometrics and orthographic drawings

Composite arrangement drawings

Industry experience in heavy industrial, water/wastewater, oil & gas, utilities, or power & energy facilities.

Advanced skillset in 3D design software and document management systems.

Competency with Microsoft Office and communication tools.

Solid understanding of engineering or architectural concepts, industry standards, and discipline codes.

Excellent communication, organization, and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

Technical degree (Associate’s in CAD, Drafting, or related field) or equivalent industry experience.

Experience with BIM workflows and LOD requirements.

Familiarity with utility and institutional power & energy facility design.

Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Denver, CO.

Pay And Benefits The pay range for this position is $36.06 - $55.05/hr.
