Summer 2026 Technical Designer Intern

Reports To: Technical Design Coordinator / Manager

Location: This role will be hybrid, based in our New York Office

Get to Know the Role:

AEO Technical Design Interns will participate in our internship program in our New York Design Office! Students are given a 10 week paid assignment where they get to work side-by-side with our tech designers and cross-functional partners within the AEO brand. This is a great opportunity to learn about our corporate culture and expand your design knowledge in a corporate retail setting.

Tech Designers are responsible for examining and measuring proto, fit and production samples to ensure accurate execution of requested measurements, quality, and construction and overall fit of garments. Aid Designers in achieving desired point of view of garments when creating technical packages and evaluating overall fit and construction. While working in a fast paced team centric setting that is solution oriented.

What You’ll Do:

Represent the Company interest of universal and consistent fit and proper construction.

Liaise with Design and Production to communicate company point of view to vendors.

Assist in fit sessions.

Communicate development and fit information, from initial concept through TOP samples, through written reports, phone conversations, and sketches and/or pattern corrections, in a timely manner.

Maintain fit standards, written reports, records and samples.

Create and maintain tracking reports of sample status.

Ability to present to cross functional teams and in front of large groups.

Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Bring:

Working towards a Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent experience and education).

Basic understanding of Pattern skills

Pattern grading knowledge

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to partner between many departments / internal business partners.

Strong Microsoft Suite / Google Suite skills required specifically Excel/Sheets.

Basic mathematics required

Must be detail oriented and able to handle multiple tasks at once.

Ability to be in the New York City area

Ability to work in a hybrid environment which will require working in person/in-office for a portion or all of a week based on the needs of the business

Actual starting pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to relevant experience and location.
