Senior Estimator – Lead Preconstruction and Strategy for a Premier Florida General Contractor Job Overview:
Salary/Pay Rate: $80,000 - $120,000 per year plus Performance and Year-End Bonuses.
Location: Onsite - Central and North Florida.
Job/Employment Type: Full-Time.
Schedule: Monday - Friday.
Project Scope: Commercial, Government, Healthcare, Education, Civil, and Marine.
Mandatory Licenses & Certifications: None Required.
The Opportunity:
You will serve as a foundational leader within a 44-year family-owned firm, tasked with building and scaling a sophisticated estimating department from the ground up. This role offers the unique autonomy to implement new technologies and systems while positioning yourself for a future executive leadership position as the company expands statewide.
How You Will Make an Impact:
Analyze and interpret construction documents (plans, specifications, and RFPs) to define project scope, identify risks, clarify requirements, and perform design reviews and constructability analysis for CM at-Risk and Design-Build projects.
Conduct site visits when necessary to verify existing conditions and gather critical project data to ensure accurate estimating and scope development.
Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop conceptual through final cost estimates for labor, materials, and equipment across all phases of design while maintaining strict project budgets.
Develop unit pricing using historical cost data, internal databases, and current market conditions while obtaining supplier and vendor pricing for materials, equipment, and specialty items.
Build and maintain strong subcontractor and supplier relationships, manage the subcontractor prequalification process, and coordinate Invitations to Bid (ITBs) to ensure strong trade partner participation and bid coverage.
Review, analyze, and level subcontractor proposals while negotiating scopes of work to ensure scope completeness, pricing accuracy, and elimination of financial risk or coverage gaps.
Develop comprehensive bid packages including general conditions, clarifications, bid breakdowns, alternate pricing, and value engineering recommendations that improve cost efficiency and project outcomes.
Prepare and submit final Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) and Lump Sum estimates aligned with contract requirements, client expectations, and company growth strategy.
Collaborate with Preconstruction, Operations, and project teams while presenting estimates to clients and internal stakeholders and supporting subcontractor buyout, scope reviews, contract negotiations, and change order pricing.
Maintain historical cost databases and subcontractor/vendor lists, track project cost data for continuous improvement, mentor junior estimating staff, oversee estimating processes for assigned projects, and represent the company in client meetings and industry engagements.
Provide guidance and training to junior estimators and preconstruction staff.
Oversee the estimating process for assigned projects, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to company protocols.
Stay current with industry best practices, estimating software, and market trends.
Serve as a brand ambassador for the company in industry events, client meetings, and community engagements.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
At least 3-5 years of dedicated experience as a commercial GC/CM estimator.
Proven expertise in leading estimating teams and managing the entire bidding process from start to finish.
Deep proficiency with industry-standard software such as Bluebeam, OST, Sage, or Planswift.
Demonstrated experience generating GMPs for Design-Build and CM at-Risk delivery methods.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related business field.
Professional estimator certifications or previous experience in business development.
Experience coming from a well-established firm with over $50M in annual revenue.
