Learning-Centered Responsibilities
Learn how social media is used to amplify Rise Academy’s mission, values, and impact on students and families
Observe and assist with the creation of mission-aligned content that highlights student achievements, staff excellence, school culture, and community partnerships
Draft social media captions, graphics, and short-form videos under close supervision, with an emphasis on positive storytelling and ethical communication
Support the planning and maintenance of a social media content calendar aligned to school events, enrollment initiatives, and community engagement efforts
Assist with capturing photos and videos at Rise Academy events and programs, following all student privacy, consent, and brand guidelines
Learn best practices for maintaining a consistent brand voice that reflects Rise Academy’s values of respect, integrity, service, and excellence
Gain exposure to social media scheduling tools and introductory analytics, learning how engagement and reach support mission awareness
Participate in content review and feedback sessions focused on skill-building, creativity, and professional growth
Conduct guided research on social media trends and how schools and nonprofits effectively engage families and communities online
Observe how confidentiality, professionalism, and responsible digital citizenship are applied in an educational setting
Must have experience posting content on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.
Educational Structure & Supervision
The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Director of Marketing & Communications or a designated Rise Academy mentor
The internship includes regular check-ins, coaching, and feedback designed to support learning and professional development
The intern will not replace or perform the essential job duties of paid staff
Professional & Career Development Outcomes
Practical experience in school-based and nonprofit communications
A deeper understanding of how storytelling supports student success and community engagement
Foundational skills in content creation, branding, and digital professionalism
Portfolio-ready work samples (subject to Rise Academy approval)
Exposure to careers in marketing, communications, education, and nonprofit leadership
By the conclusion of the internship, the intern will have gained:

This unpaid internship is designed for college students or recent graduates seeking hands‑on learning and portfolio development in social media and communications.
Requirements
Demonstrated experience using TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram (personal, academic, or project-based experience acceptable)
Interest in marketing, communications, digital media, education, or nonprofit work
Ability to create or assist with creating engaging social media content, including captions, photos, and short-form videos
Basic understanding of social media trends, platform features, and audience engagement
Strong written communication skills with attention to tone, clarity, and professionalism
Creativity, reliability, and willingness to learn in a supervised, educational environment
Ability to follow brand guidelines, confidentiality standards, and student privacy expectations
Professional judgment when representing a school community online
Ability to receive feedback, apply guidance, and grow skills over the course of the internship
Access to a smartphone or device capable of capturing photos and videos (if applicable)
