Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit The College of Arts and Sciences Advising Center (CASA) is home to academic advising for first year students majoring in the College of Arts and Sciences. Our advisors support first year students in the College of Arts and Sciences in their transition to a college environment and teach students how to understand and navigate degree requirements, course options, and support services. CASA advisors encourage students to adopt a professional and proactive approach to lifelong learning and empower students to make the most of their education in a complex and changing world.

Position Summary This position requires advising a caseload of approximately 200-220 first year students during the Fall and Spring semesters, and approximately 200 continuing, returning, and transfer students during the winter and summer periods. The position will also lead efforts to centralize undergraduate course scheduling in CAS, taking primary responsibility for gathering and analyzing data related to course scheduling and working closely with a CAS Associate Dean and department heads to maximize student enrollment and access in course offerings. This is a full-time, 12-month position.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s or PhD degree in a College of Arts & Sciences field and academic advising experience at the university level.

Demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.

Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Good working knowledge of Banner, MS365, and WebFocus.

Key Responsibility: Advising (30%)

Maintain regular email communication with the entire caseload, sharing time-sensitive reminders and updates to facilitate student success.

Meet individually with every advisee in caseload at least once each term. Prepare and file accurate and thorough Advising Records.

Comprehensive & up-to-date knowledge of all student support services available.

Comprehensive & up-to-date knowledge of all CAS curricula.

Comprehensive & up-to-date knowledge of all UNCG & CAS policies & procedures impacting students.

Key Responsibility: Course Scheduling (10%)

Collect and analyze data related to undergraduate CAS course offerings to better project scheduling needs.

Work closely with the CAS Associate Dean for Undergraduate Students and department heads to coordinate each term’s course offerings to maximize accessibility and enrollment and to avoid scheduling conflicts.

Key Responsibility: Faculty Support for Smart Planner Analytics

Support CAS Directors of Undergraduate Studies as they work to construct plans.

Key Responsibility: Departmental Liaison

Serve as the primary liaison to assigned CAS Departments, facilitating open communication to support student success.
